89 k5 Trazer build "The Dirty Girl" *Tubed front/taper, full hydro steer*

Looks good, but I dont think im going to be able to steal that idea with my body lift.
How much body lift do you have? I think you could still use these with a 1" BL but any more thatn that will probably be too much
looks good. so what size shocks are u running now?
I'm running those same procomps that you have, from this link: http://store.summitracing.com/partd...925130+4294919396+4294891681+115&autoview=sku

Did you measure your's. Mine sure aren't 15.5" travel. I think they were just under 15

you need to grind the word FORD off them. then I will tell you it looks good.
Actually I found it funny that ford stamped their logo upside down on these brackets :haha:

looks fabalus!
Thank's kert! And for those wondering, these are currently set up for 4 1/2" uptravel. I'm going to leave that and mount up everything. Then when the weather gets nicer I will take the truck out and flex it to see if the shock setup will work. Fortunatly the DIY4x lower brackets are tall enough that I could re-drill a hole 1"lower to gain an extra inch of uptravel if needed.

looks good...

you wouldn't happen to have a Ford part # on those towers would ya?

Sorry, I don't. I snagged these off a early 90s ford in the local junkyard for about $10 a piece. Although I remember seeing the part number posted here not too long ago. Search and ya might find it ;)

Actually I clearanced the front side of the mount today. I should have both upper mounts welded, painted, and mounted to the frame by the end of the weekend

Cool....
You don't wanna have issues steering on the Orange trail...after you hug a couple trees.:wink1: :D

Well both upper shock mounts have been modified, painted, and mounted.
1st pic is what the mounts looked like originally:

2nd pic is with the pie-cut:

Both mounts welded and primed

Mounts painted and bolted to the frame, and you can see my nice new steering box is now covered with surface rust :( :

We were bored, so we decided to cut the fenders today.

The battery will now have to be relocated, but that's no big deal I wanted to move them to behind the cab anyway. Gonna order some goodies this upcoming week and I think we are going to get back to the flatbed and try to get it mounted up.

That looks prettygood. i wish I could bring myself to cut mine up again, but I have to drive this one daily for a little while longer.

why do you have to relocate the battery? couldn't you just cut a hole in the inner fender for the shock tower?
I cut the part of the radiator support that the lower brace of the battery tray mounts to. So the batt tray was only held on with two bolts. I suppose I could have made some more bracing to the fender but it wasnt worth it. I want to run dual batterys anyways, plus it will be better to move that weight towards the center of the truck.

Looks good. You doing severasl mods that I have planned. Scribed:D
Thanks ;)

Got a few more things done this weekend.

I got my steering arm back from my brother's machinist friend. The arm was originally flat with a regular hole for use with a heim end. I had him re-machine it with a tapered hole and the top angled for use with a tie-rod end. I got new studs and installed the arm yesterday.

I also drained the fluid out of my np-205 and np-203 transfer cases. I removed the low-range portion from the np-203 t-case. The doubler kit is on order and should be here in a week or two.

We then dragged the flatbed frame out that we welded up last year and squared it up and clamped it to the truck's frame.

Hopefully the weather warms up here in the next few weeks and we can get started on the flatbed again. We have some ideas to mount the front and rear half. We also came up with some ideas for the rest of the rear tube work. It's going to turn out great when it's all done!

I had been debating on mounting my shocks straight up, or lean them to the rear. I already have my ford shock towers, but was unsure. Now that I see yours, I think I am going straight up like you.

It is hard to tell from the pic - was the 10 degree angle milled into the arm or was the arm twisted?

BTW - I love your brothers truck (M37?). :bow::bow::bow:

Your's ain't to bad either. :D

The angle was milled into the arm. Actually he filled the old hole shut with some solid bar stock, then tapered a new hole at the correct angle. Then machined the angle into the arm. Also the arm originally had a stock kingpin cap on top with a spacer under the cap, so now he cut the top of the cap, welded it on and eliminated the spacer.

Thanks! yea its a 1952 dodge M37. One of these days I want to swap tires to see what it would look like. After I got my 42s mounted my dad was saying that my brother should get a set for the m-37 cause he liked em better. I'd trade him but I don't think my axles could handle those 46's :eek1:
