'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
7700! Shoot, Larry's K10 regular cab shortbox with the 8.1 and the camper usually weighs in around 8,000 pounds loaded for a desert trip. It's a heavy pig for sure.

I think the offset in power and performance will out-weigh (pun intended) the increase in poundage.

That thing is a cow, you got me by like 1900 lbs. I have the 454 and a doubler. Granted less interior then you do sort of.......

It's making me think about what I could remove to shed some pounds.

I'm also surprised the distribution front to rear is 55/45. I would have guessed 60/40 or even more biased to the front.

I also have 3.5ft more frame. 8ft of rear drive shaft is pretty heavy too. :rotfl:

I was thinking it would be interesting to see the weight after, especially if you know what it was before. I always figured a cage would add a lot of weight. Course you removed a lot too.

Don't forget or under estimate how much that the frame contributes to the weight.

It has begun.

With the motor out, the next step is to redo my motor mount brackets and crossmember. Found that the motor mount brackets on the motor side need to be modified to clear the header on the driver side.
