'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
Remember the factory relay for the prime, the oil switch drives the pump. Whatever your provision, be sure to account for priming the fuel on start

Yeah it needs that. I have a '95 Mazda B3000/Ranger that the last owner had a short in the fuel pump circuit so they just ran an inline fuse and new wire to the pump from an ignition source. Stupid thing wouldn't start worth crap after I fixed some other stuff. You had to key on for the pump to pressure up then crank and let off fast and hope it fired with the pressure it had and then the pump would kick back on as soon as you stopped cranking. I did a quick check with a meter and it was shorted in the circuit going to the inertia switch I believe. I just removed that part from the circuit and it runs straight to the pump from the factory relay. Starts great now. I know (not safe) if I wreck but I will be ok.

Dropped by the Cat Scale today. Want to do a before and after to see how much weight the 454 adds. All I can say is that she's a heavy bitch:

I was expecting closer to 6700. Maybe I'm naive.

My 04 superduty diesel only weighed like 7300 last time it got weighed. That's a lot of weight for that poor small block.

I think cast iron 350 to cast iron 454 is 180 difference

I'm going with 141.

Office pool anyone?

I took pictures of the fuel level in both tanks to try and match for the after weight. I'm hoping to gain less than 150. Was really hoping for 100. Maybe I could cheat and order a fiberglass hood. I mean heck the current hood has a crack in it anway....

Just occurred to me I still have the snow chains in the cab. Taking those out has gotta save 70lbs.

But I'll leave them in because I want to get an accurate measure. The lady at the truck stop is going to know me on sight by the time I'm done messing around with weight changes. :rotfl:
