'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
also hang them up and let them bleed out the tail like any dead animal works if you can . I have done this a few times with a engine hoist .

many people make the mistake of using NPT for those cooler fittings causing a cracked case. Imagine that ofukmylife moment.....lol
As I was threading them in thinking "what if they sent me tapered fittings by mistake". Or I ordered the wrong thing. :screwy:

I would do a shift kit!!!!!!
I haven't experienced one in an 80, but there is a nice difference in a 4L60E. And I have liked the performance in the 700R4, TH350 and 400....

Others may have more informed opinions, but I feel like a 4L80 in our kind of applications doesn’t need a shift kit. I’ve only installed, programmed, and run one, but it’s a late style stock rebuild and has performed extremely well over the last 15k miles.

If you’re running a standalone controller (TCM2000 or similar) many of the shift timing (load vs speed) and firmness (pressure/gear) parameters can be dialed in from the laptop.

Okay that is what I was thinking @AgDieseler and @Smokinthehippies because I will have a stand alone controller. Only thing I thought a kit might do is some sort of flow improvement.

I also have that "if it ain't broke...." mindset that is telling me to leave it alone.

I'd paint the shit out of it with hugger orange paint, throw the cheapest B&M shift kit in it you can find at Auto Zone. Then I'd buy a 30 pack of PBR and do donuts in my grass.

I thought about all of that, but I realized I don't have a yard, so I didn't do it. Haha

I did not put a kit in mine. This is memory from about 5 years ago but I'm running a small (maybe 10%) line pressure increase. Personally I would not want any firmer shifts. In low and low-low the shifting is nice during crawling and if I get on it in low/low-low it is way more than adequate.
