'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
Hauled away the old K5 (the General) to the scrap yard. Kinda nice to have 2 cranes at your disposal.

There's no question it's done after this:

I always feel a little sad when I haul one off for scrap...but I haven't scrapped anything that I have driven in about 20 years, just parts trucks that meant nothing to me.

That must have hurt a bit! :doah:

Kinda but really the sadness was most 2yrs ago when we started pulling parts off. We owned it 14yrs so we definitely got our investment back out of it. And many of the parts are living on in other rigs.

I've paid for a lot of projects selling parts. Plus recycling parts off the K5 saved a lot of money. The axles are from a 79 K30, tcase from 88 K5, and trans from 89 K5. Rear springs from a fellow CK5er. Here in the near future we'll hopefully have a motor out of an early 2000's truck.

Oh and a rear door from an 89 burb.

We at CK5 scrap WAY, WAY too many K5s..... :doah: :shame:

Like what? The windshield is the only thing I thought twice about.

I yank doors. I have a pile of them. Good for broken windows, regulators, handles, random hardware, mirrors.

I would have kept the top, the fenders, the radiator support, etc.

Then again, I live on a farm, and have a couple old barns full of random junk.

I can appreciate that. I really do like to save what I can. As much for myself as to sell for more play money. That's how I've earned my iTrader rating. :D

I wish the fenders would have been good, I like having spares of those.

The doors were left over beaters from 2 doors ago on the K5. I have a good door in my parts stash. I also already have a extra core support.

The top was cracked. The door strikers were tearing out of the pillars and the floor boards were tearing apart at the seams.

We really did use up that K5. About the only good thing left was that it was rust free.

Yeah you're right, it wasn't horrible. Here's a better angle of it.

But now you're just busting my balls! :tongue1: :flipoff7: :rotfl:

Nice! I ordered my cable shifter from Jon on Friday! He said there is a backorder on a certain part, so I am hopeful it should ship either by the end of this week or beginning of next. I am pretty excited :waytogo:

Do you have a pic of it installed? I purchased the same shifier and cable. Will I need this bracket?
