'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
I'm trying to budget out what I need to set up the TBI on the 454. My current 350TBI does not have the knock sensor circuit which I do want to add. I have a computer and harness from a TBI350 that did use a knock sensor. So I just need to have a chip made for it correct? What does that entail?

While I'm at it, I would prefer to delete the EGR part of the setup. I assume this is possible when I have the chip made for the ECM?
Yes, easy enough to remove the EGR from the tuning. As yours already has the VSS, keep that in the system.

Two recommendations for you:
Call Troy at Howell and ask what other considerations need be allocated into what you are doing.
Consider the throttle spacer

Mine has the mechanical VSS but I was thinking about getting the electrical version. I would like the improved flexibility for the speedometer since I have the DIY4x dash. It's not near accurate for various reasons but I still have the VSS hooked up behind the dash. I use a GPS speedo app on my phone. I just pulled the back part of the speedo off and zip-tied it back behind everything.

That's virgin territory for me...

Talked with Howell this afternoon. Really all I need is a chip. My TBI should have the knock sensor; I think the 3/4 and 1 ton 350 TBI didn't, but only the 454 went without - until 90. The sensor is there, but not connected to anything. I'll have to see if I can find the lead stuffed up somewhere.

He did tell me their harnesses are going to work well in my situation where I already have TBI. Their harness is made for older vehicles that don't already have the bulkhead penetrations and what not.

So I think I'm going to try and scrounge up a donor harness or just see about fixing up the one in the truck now. Big thing is finding that knock sensor lead.

And I try not to post without pictures so......

I miss my old 454....I had built it but had to sell it before I could run it. 30 over, comp can 292 magnum cam, torker intake....sigh....

The motor came out of a 76 caprice station wagon, it had a whopping .260 lobe lift. I port matched the (round) intake ports & manifold. I would have loved to dyno'd that.

I know this is stock peanut port 454, but I'm still super excited to get it running in the truck. It will be the largest displacement motor I've driven.
Massive change from the squito killa
