'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
i think in todays world on usb cables they should have used a more friendly connector on that hand held unit . and 50 bucks for a cable seems a bit crazy .

i need to read up on how to do the updates on both my hand held and sniper unit its self for when my link comes in .

I hate the progressive linkage. Maybe if I had used it from the beginning it wouldn't be so bad, but I don't like it. The truck feels sluggish. I end up pushing the pedal a lot further which is then messing up my tune on the 4l80e because it thinks I'm really getting after it so the shifts are delayed and firmer.

I'm wondering if the size of the motor as well as the weight and gearing make the progressive linkage not ideal for me. I also didn't notice that much difference with the throttle pressure required. I'm glad I didn't buy the more expensive adjustable link. It is sluggish right off the line so I don't think adjusting it would help.

So if anyone wants to try it, I'll make you a deal on the one I have.

dont forget you can play with the pump shot for throttle tip / accelerator pump in like carbed but its a setting .

but as you said if you had it before and were happy why change .

mine the little i have drove it is kind of stiff/sticky and its game ON with little throttle . i need it to be a bit more smooth and less VROOM . so i will try mine .

oh ya did you adjust the setting in the ecm for it ? and when removed did you turn it off ?

Yes I did the setup on the handheld. It ended up with the secondaries coming at 45% on the TPS. I will take it off tomorrow.

The hardest part is dealing with the tiny cotter pin. I poked the hell out of my thumb getting the factory one off.

Put the original linkage on this morning and went for a little test drive. I definitely prefer the original.

It is working fine. I haven't driven it a bunch. I think I mentioned before, I do feel like the firmware update I installed with the new throttle body is an improvement. Namely in cold start up. I never had trouble with the truck starting and running cold but I always thought it was odd that it didn't idle higher and taper off as the motor warmed up. With the new firmware, it behaves like I would expect with a higher idle that tapers off as the motor warms.

I'm hoping to get more drive time in before the Rubicon trip in June, but we have some other things going on that might make it difficult.

I did get a fuel pressure gauge back in the system, so I'm happy about that.

Well I owe ya a gage then

Good news on the updates

I did a firmware update when I installed my progressive linkage as well. It greatly improved idle and startups on my Sniper too. It just didn't work right before, the progressive throttle makes it much nicer to drive as well.
