'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
@mrk5 I have a known good HEI. I have time to run it up in the morning if you need
Thanks! I already had what I needed on hand in hopes it would be a straight forward fix.

The engine is running. Had 50psi cold idle. No funny noises.

I do have a new problem. Once the EFI reaches fuel learn temperature (160F) it spazzes out and dies. Up until 160F it runs perfectly. I got a late start and ran out of time to mess with it more. I'm going to try resetting the system by running the setup wizard like it's a new install. I'm wondering if maybe the learning leading up to the failure the EFI got some bad data and has things goofed up.

Back to the corroded terminal on the cap, the plug wires all looked good. I made sure to use some dielectric grease this time.

Does the O2 sensor show any readings? Possibly damaged with all that cranking and no spark
Does it act different if you unplug it?

O2 sensor reads good at least up to 160F. I did notice when it spazzed over 160F, the AFR would say "heating", I've never seen that before at any condition. Never glitched under 160F. Also tried disabling closed loop, but that didn't change anything.

Is that the full length of the pin? Usually see it stripped at the shaft wall with a section still in the distributor shaft.
I measured the 2 pieces and they add up to the same width as the gear. If there's anything missing, it's small. Hopefully we caught it wiping out the oil pan or in the filter. The way it's kinda smashed where it broke makes me wonder if it walked out and then was sheared.

Yeah that’s what I was hoping looking at the picture. Hopefully the issue on the EFI is corrected by a reset unless you find a loose connection

If it were mine, I’d run it a few hundred miles and drop the oil and filter again, see what it looks like

That's what I was thinking. Drive it around here a little bit and change the oil before the next trail run.

Ran the setup wizard. I did a couple of wonky things during warm up and once after reaching learn temperature. It died but started up fine. The weird thing is after it restarted idle timing was at 15° and I would have to reset it to 24°. The last time it did that was after it reached learn temperature. I idled for several minutes without a hiccup so I shut it off; I had to get back to work. If I get some time this afternoon I'll see how it runs and try to at least do some laps around the yard.

Yesterday it wouldn't stay running after it reached learn temperature, so this morning was at least an improvement over that.

That is what happened. That is the best scenario you could have, if it had to be something.

Drove the crew cab over to the car wash and it seems to be back to it's usual smooth running. The hiccups I was having appear to be due to RFI. I wasn't as careful about re-routing the plug wires during reassembly. After doing some reading, everything was point to RFI, so I moved the plug wires further away from the EFI harness and that seems to have done the trick.

Glad things are in the upswing

I usually like to try and leverage a situation like this into an upgrade, but unfortunately that wasn't really possible in this case.

Sure it was. Spend all the monies at once is what you told me
