'90 K5 "Project Sanity" Sold 7/5/2018

Also in the parts truck pile I picked up were a set of sliding topper windows. My AC may work, I haven't tried it. Even if it does it'd be nice to get the extra air for the rear passengers with the slider windows.

As I got them...dirty, crappy tint peeling off, stickers. Bleh...but after a bit of elbow grease they cleaned up.

the old plain glass.

And the almost installed slider. I sanded down the exterior aluminum and blasted the frames satin black. I kinda like it!

For those that haven't re and re'd side glass in a topper it's dead easy. In the pic you can see the ropy lookin black thing. It gets pushed into the slot in the rubber frame all the way around the plain glass, or aluminum frame if you have sliders. Some liquid hand soap in the slot makes it go pretty easy.

I used a pair of flat screwdrivers to remove the old glass and install the slider assembly.

I ought to paint my side window frames like that. I took out the flapper windows though. Hardly moved and full of mold and crap from Seattle. Now I can open the windows and the dogs can hang their heads out the side.

I concur. I got mine out of a 91. It was literately up in the air on the forklift getting ready to be put in the crusher. I shouted out and ended up getting the guy to put it down long enough to yank the windows out. Took like 10 minutes and they were mine.

Nice catch Corey! I hate seeing any K5's go to the crusher, I know they do but it offends me. At least you saved something from it.

If it makes you feel any better the windows were literally the last things left on it when I got them. The K5 was destroyed when the guy driving it was drunk off his ass and did a head on with a redwood tree at a high rate of speed. Other than the windows the only thing else that was picked off of it was the rear end. Everything else was toast.

at least the truck is now free from the drunk retard that ran it into the tree.that resto work on the quarters went really well rene.sweet pickup on that stock tach cluster.should be nice to have and look stock at the same time.

Thanks! I just have a few hours left on the floors now...then it's my turn to find some proper automotive paint and make it look decent (I hope!)

Rene

Yeah, gonna paint it myself. I have a 60 gallon compressor and a pair of HVLP guns.

I really only do have a couple of hours left on the floors. It's one conrer behind the drivers seat left, all the rest is done as far as rust repair goes.

Rene

Whats your plans for paint? Paint was my biggest fear with all the mixing and what not. That's why I decided to use the Duplicolor. It comes all premixed, pretty much paint for dummy's. I know it's cheap paint, but I figured why spend a bunch of money on paint when I know I am not a body man and I know I could never get it perfectly strait. I'm not so anal that I cant live with a few imperfections. I'll let you know how it turns out if I get mine painted first.

You gonna pull the truck right into the doghouse to do the painting? You got a downdraft air setup in there??? :haha:

:usaflag:

Not a bad idea Greg, now that it's all dusted off and clean in there again. :D

I'm gonna look around on the www and see if there are any good ideas for a cheap homemade spray booth. I have a 20 x 20 open carport to work with, maybe some good plastic sheeting, some duct tape, furnace filters and a couple or three box fans i might be able to have something work. The airflow through the booth just has to be steady, not hurricane like.

I hear muneypit is available.:haha: That truck has come a long way. And we all know where you will end up.:D Glad to see so much progress. Keep on motivating as you always have.

My buddy is buying my one ton diff's off of me sometime soon. I told him about the big block and his first words were "I guess you're keeping the diffs?" :haha:

Is it crazy that I still want to stick with the 10 bolts? This thing can't be much worse than a warmed over smallblock...

I still have under $1700.00 in it so far. Not that I have any illusions, but I think I'm still doing OK on the $$ end of things.

Rene

It can't be the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

It is the satisfaction of a job well done.

All depends on what you do with it. Could always to the 6 lug version of the 14 bolt SF, some 33s and drive around with a smile on your face everytime you push on the pedal....

Agreed. Chevy offered the 454 in a number of 1/2 trucks with both the 12 bolt (Heavy Half) and SF 14 bolt (SS 454). So a SF 14 bolt with 33-35's would be totally doable behind a stock tbi 454.

WE are talking about Rene. How long would a poor little ten bolt last??? Just askin????
