'90 K5 "Project Sanity" Sold 7/5/2018

I just bought a full case Detroit for my 10 bolt, like last week. Guess I'll have to make sure to run some Chromo shafts for sure now.

Prolly stick with forged Spicers up front. It's the rear that I'm most concerned with to be honest. I really am not gonna be wheeling this thing hard, and I managed 6 years on a D44 with 36" swampers, and SM 465 that I did wheel moderately hard. Never tore that up at all and it was all stock.

Rene,

NICE SCORE!!

Here's what you need to do immediately...... find some 1/4" flat plate and cut it into small 2" x 2" coupons. You will need about 8 of these. Carefully stack the coupons on top of each other and tack-weld them together at the corners. This will give you a stack of metal shims roughly 2" thick.

Carefully pull back the carpet and weld this part directly behind the gas pedal before installing the new BBC. This will help prevent other "issues" from developing in your otherwise sensible build thread.

Optional: Each time you find yourself with approximately $1000 in savings set aside for the Blazer, you are allowed to cut the spotwelds on the topmost plate in that stack and remove it. This will give you 1/4" of additional pedal travel and will help you to locate the weakest part of your drivetrain.... 8 shims = $8000 total. That should be enough to remedy all of the broken parts. You can increase the "price per shim" to meet your individual needs or desires....

Or swap in the 60/14, 4.56's, detroit, 1410 yokes, rear disc's, NV4500 and post up burn out vids? :haha:

Why do it halfway?

Rene

All the burly stuff would probably be closer to sanity if you think about it. Plus it's all just sitting here holding down the garage floor, so no more $$ to spend.

Big block and 10 bolts, with tiny 1310 yokes, in a 5000 lb truck...that is INsanity.

We'll see.

I really want to run ralley rims though, although H2's wouldn't be bad either I guess.

First priority is get it ready pretty much as is for Blazer Bash. Near stock, but gone through, 350, 3.42's and half worn 35's on the ralleys. That will still be plenty of fun.

Rene

time to find a 6 lug semifloat rear end, the 90% rule applys there. To most folks its still gonna look stock cause its a 6 lug

We'll see...All that stuff is this fall/winter's issue to decide on.

Rene

gotta agree with Greg...BB's just seem to break more sh!t....Are you laying awake at night wondering what direction to go?

Might be able to help you with that problem.

id put the 60 and 14 in if i already have them.big block will kill those 10 bolts the first time you get on it good.and i know you are gonna want to do it every once in awhile.you can only hold out and not hit the gas hard for so long before the urge sets in.at least the one tons are alreay setup and geared good and strong enough to be up to the task.

Yeah, I'm about 95% decided on the one tons. It just makes too much sense, and they're just sitting here mocking me right now. So is the doubler...

You can see the triple sticks mocking me in the background of this pic, and the NV4500 too. Look low on the left side of the pic, kinda beside the tool chest.

Also have the 1410/1410 heavy wall drivelines sitting here, front with 20" slip joint.

I'll never get my $$ out of all these parts anyways, might as well use them. :doah:

the good part is it's all paid for already...

Rene

I'll be honest, the hardest part will have nothing to do with OCD. What will be hard is resisting the temptation to "temporarily" bolt up the NV4500/203/205, one ton diffs, 4-6" springs and start building a cage for it. To have the good parts just sitting here is a huge temptation! Those parts are meant for the Crew though and I have to stick to that. Rene

Huh?

Maybe I'm too tired to get it, or did you think you were replying to something else? I'm confused now.

Rene

Just an old Pirate4x4 joke.... :D

Any time there is a giveaway where people have to reply to the thread to get entered, that seems to be the most common post you'll see.

Now it has evolved so that whenever someone posts up cool or expensive parts in a thread, I'm always tempted to yell "In thanks for the chance" as if it's a giveaway!!! :haha:

It can have a really funny effect in the Pig Pen forums too.

ps. FWIW, I don't disparage you for doing a 1-ton swap if you want to....especially if you already have the parts. Just stay cognizant of the reasons why "project sanity" started and don't let yourself get pulled too far into the dark side (where all the jackstands and cobwebs are)....

Good advice there! if you cant do the work in a weekend and drive it the next week, the mod might be verging on a bit "insane". Jack-stands and cobwebs are bad, I am a personal victim of them :(

Rene,
Nothing at all wrong with using what you already have, in fact it is sane seeing as the parts are paid for.

Now whats insane is adding the parts in a way that makes it un streetable. I remember us talking on the phone one night before you tore down the old Jimmy. Your biggest complaint was not being able to drive it due to the mushy suspension. Don't make that mistake twice Brother!!

The 60/14 can be added and you can make it streetable at the same time. Your basic spring packs from say Tuff Country with gas shocks are plenty good. Hell stock steering works, and don't go over 35's that's where it gets into the insanity part.
