'90 K5 "Project Sanity" Sold 7/5/2018

So to update, Russel came over last weekend and spent two days on wiring. He installed the re-worked engine harness, then stripped the entire under-dash wiring and re-pinned the whole thing and stripped out the now un-needed bits. There are a few little wiring things left, but it's mostly done now.

I installed a driver's side batt tray, fabbed an ECM mount on the inner fender, and found the correct serpentine belt.

With all the work done so far one issue came up that was a little frustrating. The current 12 bolt rear had some issues. Russel noticed the pinion had some side to side play suggesting bearings going south...the pinion seal was also leaking slightly. On closer inspection I found gear lube leaking from on of the rosette welds of all places. I already knew it had a gov lock that was iffy.

Dean has a good collection of Chevy parts, so Nick and I made the trip down and 4 diff's. Nick scored a 6 lug SF 14 with 3.73's, and we grabbed a couple of 10 bolts.

Yesterday Nick and I cleaned the ever loving crud off the rear 10 I was replacing my 12 bolt with, got it all clean and painted. The we installed a Lock Right...and slung it under the truck in place of the old 12 bolt. Today I installed complete new brakes, drums, shoes, wheel cylinders etc and got everything re-connected. As a side benefit I no longer need a conversion U joint...

Feels like I didn't make forward progress, although I did put quite a bit of time in. It seems most of my build is putting existing stuff back to right and ensuring reliability rather than cool upgrades and fancy aftermarket pieces. Oh well, I'll take reliable over fancy any day!

I'll take a few lame pics later...gonna head out there again and see what else I can accomplish.

I got those tow hooks for you...don't go looking for any...we will come out and visit you guys one of these days hopefully soon!

Did you find the power steering line you needed?

Nice progress! :thumb:

Thanks Dean, one more thing to not look for. :waytogo:

I still need that return side power steering fitting, if you think of it.

It's awesome to have some CK5ers nearby that are helping me a ton. Mostly though I find it's just enough that when they're around I'm so much more motivated.

Went to the boneyard today, grabbed and airbox and MAP sensor off an '06. I'm not optimistic about the airbox fitting, I may have to go with a CAI (as ghey as that is)

On to some recent progress pics.

Russel at his makeshift work station we set up (it was rainy, weirdly cold and got very windy just after he showed)

Finally the 10 bolt. No leaks, tight pinion, all brandy new brakes, new Lock Right. Should last a few months...lol

Picked up a white board too. I seriously need to start listing the remaining tasks now that it's getting closer to complete.

Just ordered the Spectre Cold Air set-up...

That stock airbox is a big fail, and it isn't my high mount AC getting in the way, it's my GD shock hoop. grrr

I tried every way possible to get a factory air box to fit and it just was not happening. The spectre fits pretty well

You saved me a bunch of digging through 5.3 threads...thanks! :waytogo:

Yeah, if the '86 sled is still on the trailer it'll have what I need. I woulda got it if we weren't rushing like we were when we were there.

Been picking away at this... decided to get the quad headlight core support assembled and on the truck.

It's stupid hot here right now, as in record breaking. June here is normally our rainy month...today was 90, and supposed to be mid 90's tomorrow. Not AZ heat, but plenty hot for us as we just ain't used to it. I'm gonna get out there early tomorrow before it gets stupid again.

I also dropped off my rear driveshaft this morning. For whatever reason the rear shaft has always been short, even before the lift. As it sits now I had 4 1/2" of slip showing. So, I'm getting the shaft re-tubed 3"longer in .095" wall.
