'90 K5 - The Nevada Blazer [Post 1437: School me on alternators)

so where's the damage?

A little scrape on the passenger door. Also, technically I nearly ripped off my trailer light plug mount on the hitch... but that doesn't count. :) That damn hitch is such a boat anchor! I'm really looking forward to building a rear bumper for this truck to get the hitch up out of the way.

that is a really cool trail and scenery...I need to make it up there in my truck. Looks like your truck is pretty capable in stock form.

I'm really impressed with this truck. I think the 2.73:1 NP241 is pretty great, and this is also the first time that I've had a truck where the axle gears were appropriate for the tire size. I suspect that will improve more when I get your 60 in there with the 5.13s... :deal: I'm anxious to do the swap, but think I'll be a few bucks short to do the whole jobber in January.

BTW, I have the gears for the 60 now, I still need to buy an install kit. Also still need to buy gears for the 14BFF and an install kit for that too. I will have the money for that by January though, so we're still on track.

So what size tires do you have?
I am thinking about taking my burb with 33" tires. Want to see if I stand a chance.
I am pretty good at putting a full size in jeep trails, so I know if you got through with stock tires, I possibly can.

Well, those are 33s. To be honest, though, I don't want to drive this trail again till I have my truck modified. But, if you wanted to drive it, I'd be glad to bring my truck around the back way and help guide you through it. ;) A Burb is awfully long for this trail, but I'd like to see it! You'd have some potential for high centering. How do you feel about sheet metal?

It's only metal.:dunno:
But seriously, I will be putting my 4.10 axles probably before then, maybe I will have 35" tires by then too and I will have a little bit more to help.
Ideally for smaller trails I would rather have 38" but this burb will not be for tight trails, I am rebuilding my Wagoneer for that, but that project is on hold for now, it will be too much time to finish it for this year.

Come over to Reno, and we'll find some fun trails to go on. If anyone else wants to make it, maybe we can have 4-6 rigs together and goof off for a day or two.

You guys and ur wheeling, makes me depressed haha. Mines in a chicken coup all by its lonesome for the winter :(

Well I am supposed to go up to Carson city soon, once I get the date nailed down maybe I can make it a wheeling trip too.
The dates in question are 13th, 19th or th 27th of this month.
I'll let you know as soon as we confirm.

Those dates aren't real workable for me, just an FYI. But, that of course doesn't mean you shouldn't come over to wheel w/ alexsdad. :)

Dang Colby get some sliders on there :eek1:

Cool pics man, fun to be reminded how capable a stock rig is

I thought the frame was a slider? :dunno:

Seriously though, I agree! Not sure I would've cleared the trail with sliders though, as it would've perhaps decreased my clearance too much. I didn't hit the rockers, but as you can tell from the pictures, I sure came close! I'm real thankful for the quality spotting that I had out there.

Sliders are high on my list of to-dos, but lower than getting gears for my 14 bolt. Also, I probably won't run a trail that rigorous again till after the lift/tires/etc.

It is fun to see how capable the stock truck is. I really think a lot of it has to do with the 2.73:1 gear ratio of the tcase, plus having small tires with what I presume are 3.73 gears in the axles. I might lift the truck up this week and do a preliminary estimate on what the gears are in this truck, just out of curiosity.

Well the date is set for th 27th
I will start a post and see if axlesdad, and maybe ION want to join.
As for stock rigs, I always wheeled stock rigs, until I came to the US that is all I had. I had a 73 K5 on 31" tires with a limited slip rear, that K5 went anywhere I took it, even on some jeep only trails and the only damage I ever had was pin striping.
You actually learn more how to drive when your truck is stock.
Then you can really take advantage of any mod you do to your truck to maximize the gain.
That is why I am building my waggy with 35" tires no more. With the 110" wheelbase and the slightly narrower body 71" wide, I was always able to go anywhere with that waggy, I just need the more reliable GM running gear so I am putting a 6.2 gm with a 700/28 and 3/4 ton axles, or HD 1/2 ton axles.

Build thread on the Waggy? :deal:

Are you thinking of wheeling on the 27th itself, or is that just the day you're beginning your visit to Carson?

So I tried lubing the lock to no avail. Door still has trouble unlocking. Something must be sticking inside the door. Guess I'll have to pull the door panel off and get after it. :( Bummer. I suppose I might need to add the relay mod to the window motor while I'm in there.

You know, I was going to do the relay mod but when I replaced the motor and some of the cracked wiring, it was WAY faster. So I didn't bother with the relay because its as fast as a late model chevy. Seriously. Huge difference. LMC window motor and just some auto wiring from NAPA. Soldered it to the factory plugs and put it back in place with some wiring loom.

Hell of a lot easier than trying to figure out the wiring for the relays.

Oh it's coming, as soon as I figure out if I want to run the GM frame complete with running gear and slap on the body, or reinforce the frame of the waggy and custom fab everything.:doah:
And as it turns out, we will meet in Reno, no more Carson City, so if someone from Reno can give us an address where we could meet and greet and do our exchange, and I will need a space to park my little truck bed trailer when we go wheeling.
I could actually be there a day early, and I could stay a day or 2 after, but the business I have is on the 27th around 10 ish.
See the post in the lounge.

I've had 22+ fullsize Jeeps, so I'll wheel with anyone who likes FSJ's.

The good- I can be available on the 27th. The bad- if theres snow I don't hit the trails because I can't see the rocks and dips.

Dang Colby get some sliders on there :eek1:

We were using the old fashioned sliders (frame rails, skid plates, leaf springs, and the hitch).

It was truly cool to get Colby's Blazer through this trail, it was a very tough obstacle course, and the Blazer has open diffs.

Now that it's been posted locally how a stock Blazer made it through, I am anxious to attend the next Jeep run and watch a few of the built Jeeps get stuck. Side note- I don't hold a grudge, but the local club told me I couldn't tag along, as my Blazer was just "too big" to be on Jeep trails. Okay, so I do hold a grudge.

I didn't know that. That's dumb.
