90 Suburban Build Xtreme Offroad TV - Body Work

I suggested Deaver or ORD to him, but I doubt that was new info to him. I just hope he doesn't go with some off the shelf lift spring. That would be a let down.

Anything other than leaf springs would be a negative mark to a true end of world rig.

replacement parts are easier w/ off the shelf... if it is a true end of the world vehicle.

anyone say 46" claws ? ? ?

this was at my shop for work this summer .

around 20" total lift on 1/2 ton frame . with 60's frt/rear .

I hear ya on that, but he is already committed to 46" tires and portal axles which aren't too "off the shelf" so I think that argument is kind of moot at this point. The problem is that this build kind of shifted direction. The original concept was a Big Foot Hunting Vehicle which leaves the options fully open. Run whatever expensive, uber rare, hard to find part you want. Hence the 46" Claws on 20" wheels and portal axles. Then, all of a sudden, it somehow turned into an End Of Days build but in keeping the 46s and portals I think it is going to disappoint the EOD survivalist purists who want mostly stock, tires no bigger than 37", and are also pushing for a diesel which Ian isn't planning on either. EOD is cool but completely different than the original concept which lends itself more to the "Xtreme" and I think in the long run would have satisfied a broader audience.

rear hangers ?

there just long cross tied shackles to go with the extra almost 5" of front hanger drop on the front with 12" lift springs .

we didn't build it . he got it this way minus the 46" tires . but I had to go threw and redo a LOT of stuff that was wrong / needed rebuilt / corrected to make it driveable.

and here is the whole side shot .

I meant the rear spring shackles....In the first pic, they disappeared behind the tire.

yes that's what I gave info for .

rednecks that built this before he got it did about 5" drop hanger for front spring eye location .

then just extra long front shackles and a cross tie section in the middle to keep them from doing crazy side flexing .

not the way I would have done it if I needed that much lift . but it works for how little he drives it .

Ok, so update on this. Ian is FINALLY going to start tear down this week. He has changed his drivetrain choice to a 12v Cummins and 6 speed manual Ford trans. Still sticking with portal axles, leaf springs, and 46" Claws.

Make sure to share this video on social media with everyone you know. I would love to see this build become one of the most popular in the show's history. This little clip already has 293k+ views, 2500+ likes, and 200+ comments. That is a lot for just being posted.

Here is the one that Ian always posts during the winter. He actually hates the cold which is funny since he is from Canada. Also funny, according to Ian, Guy Fieri used to have normal hair before he met Ian. Evidently back in the day Guy did some promo work or something for Powerblock before he went on to do the food network gig and decided to steal Ian's look to make himself stand out for the food shows.

That is awesome. I'm a fan of Fieri too. Good to know!
