Which wheel studs should I install so I can run mag wheels which are thicker than steel wheels. I checked out the DOR-610-301 studs which are 3 1/4 in. long with a 9/16 thread but the part store said they showed them to fit a Ford axle. The stock GM studs that camd with the 14 ff with brake drums are 3 in. long and the heads are larger than the DOR-610-301, but the dia. of the shank seem the same. I have the 3/4 ton disc rotors for a 85 GM truck. Please, I could use some help with this. Thanks ! :dunno:
 
Is the 14 bolt a SF or a FF axle? If it's a FF axle did it have the 13" brake drums? If it is a FF and it had the 13" brake drums then you don't need any new studs, however if it is a FF axle and had the small 11" brake drums then you need to buy new studs for a FF that had the 13" brakes.
 
It is a 14 FF but not sure about the brake drum size. The studs it had were 3 " long which seem a little short for the alum. wheels.

I need to pay more attention, had I not forgotten you said it had 3" studs I would have known it was a FF axle with 13" drums. I have those same studs and I run aluminum mag wheels on my rig and those studs are plenty long enough.
 
I read where they said to use thw longer studs but I will try the 3 in. ones like you said. THANKS,
 
Here is something for you to keep an eye on when you're pressing the studs through the rotor/hub. I have found that the head of the wheel stud is about 1.100" in diameter and that "some" rotors only have a recess that will allow a head diameter of a little over 1.00" so I like to machine the head of every stud to 1.00" diameter that way if I ever need to swap rotors the studs I have will fit no matter what. If the head of the stud is larger than the recess that it is supposed to recess into then the studs will be too short and not very safe either.
