91 K5 -Procrastination Build - bikini top!

I didn't say I was coming, but my wheels are spinning.

I have been wanting to come to one of yalls' get togethers for some time now. I can warrant coming for a couple days to trail ride a lot easier than I can a 16 hour day trip to eat at The Shed. The way I figure I am 8 hours from yall. About 450-500 miles.

NVRENUF...you get serious on finishing your rig & I'll get serious on planning a road trip.:deal:

Deal! July is a ways away so give me 6 weeks or so to get back to ya. :D

Glad to see you are getting some stuff done. i read the entire theread a couple of months ago and was hoping to see some updates! keep em comin :D

I also installed the springs back in the stock orientation so the axle is only shifted 1" back (Zero Rate). The truth is that while I loved the short departure angle I just hated the look of where the axle was located when the springs were backwards. It's a personal thing, I just didn't like the look.

Glad to see some updates. I've always like this blazer! Anyways, i figured i would share with you what i did, because i'm running 56's flipped with the short end to the rear (to gain 4" in whell base) and like you i didnt like the offset of the wheel and wheel well, so i threw in a zero rate like you and offset the pin back to the front with the 1.5" holes, and this allowed me to get more wheel base length (2.5") and still look some what normal.

I'm sure if you wanted to go this route, it would look proportional with your newly modified wheel well openings. Just a thought. If you need any pics for reference, just let me know and i'll see what i can dig up.

Yeah, if you can throw up a pic I'd love to see it. I thought about going that route but I've read a few times about problems with wheel hop / pinion angle because you're on the wrong side of the spring arc. :dunno:

i will try and get a couple pics up tonight when i get done with work.

The sring wrap would be a concern, but depending on how bad it is you could always fab up a spring wrap bar, which may not be worth the extra 1.5" in wb gain from where you are now. I cant really give you any real life experience with this because the amount of flex my truck ever saw was some poser shots on a 4' tall embankment, but i really didnt see any real wrap effects from that (again it wasnt any real hardcore stuff either).

here is the best side shot i could find. I would get you a new one, but it will have to be this weekend, if thats ok. (it might look a little funny too because the k5 is now sitting on rockwells, and has dually rears on, ha).

let me know if you want anything specific, and i'll see what i can do.

With them backwards spring wrap is a problem. Mine would wheel hop like a bitch. I fabbed up an anti wrap bar with parts from Kert. Mine is 56's flipped & the spring perch with a new hole drilled one inch forward. Rear axle should be about 5" rearward.

Well ain't you purdy. :D

I got to thinking about it and I guess it doesn't matter at this point because I had my d-shaft built for it already. I could move it back .5" without a problem but 1.5" might jack up the slip.

I think it looks pretty good too. Not to hijack johns thread.....!ut do you have a shot from the front too?

i posted some pictures in my thread here, that way we didnt hi jack this thread up with my junk

Yea it might not even be worth the extra half inch in wheel base to change it. Either way you go, i'm sure it will be plenty functional. Keep up the progress as i always like seeing this thing transform.

John,

Get off the couch and do something why don't ya!!! I'll be loading my truck on the trailer and heading to Colfax, LA for the Trucks Gone Wild event this coming weekend. I still haven't driven it anywhere except around the parking lot at the shop but I guess there's no better way to test it than on the trail. Oh I sold the 47" LTB's Friday, sometimes money talks...

Been a while and sorry I haven't posted much here. I've done a bunch of work but haven't taken a lot of pics. Here's a few of the winch installed in Kerts bumper center. There's about 1"~1.5" between the winch and the core support. I've still got to cut and short the hood latch support and reinstall it.

I'll try to take a couple more tomorrow of a shelf I put inside the glove box to mount the MSD box and coil.

Methinks you need a new cable on that thing. Nice set of spare doors too, or is it just a convenient place to keep the spare mirrors?:whistle:

I've got new cable for it, it's just not on it yet. I should have taken that busted cable off before lugging it around to put in the bumper. :doah: :myback: I've still got to go buy the right hardware for it and find my roller fairlead too.

That's just a good place for spare mirrors right now. Found those on a Sub in the u-pull-it and was on them like stink on poo. :D

Is that bumper center the normal one Kert builds or did you get him to custom build it to push the winch closer to the radiator?
