91 K5 -Procrastination Build - bikini top!

jezz, who's the traffic cop lol
that's some lumpy cam you got there :)

That's my wife, she could see it chewing on the core support as I pulled in so she was trying to get me to stop. :rotfl:

Fanfreakintabulous!:waytogo: That is some serious body roll though, I could see it as you came around the corner down the street.

Well I drove it some more today and promptly got a ticket from a state trooper. :doah:He was good to me though, only a $30 no seatbelt ticket. He could have hit me for no insurance, no exhaust, a couple of lights that don't work, etc but he was pretty nice and let me go on all that. Totally my fault I knew what I was doing, I was just trying to get another quick run on the gears. :dumbass:

Did you ever drive yours without shocks? Just wondering how much difference they'll make.

Mine rolls pretty bad with shocks.

Never tried it without.

x2

Dont do any donuts on dry ground, I about flipped mine when I first did the 52 swap.:doah:

Mine sways really bad too with shocks but you get used to it, the wifey rode with me in it saturday for the first time in a while and she said "Is it aways like this?":haha: I just laughed and told her it wasn't a street truck anymore.

Ok, I had the exhaust done by Chris, not4show, @ Performance Muffler and Truck Accessories in Gulfport. It turned out really nice and I think it sounds fantastic. I asked for something quiet enough to talk inside the truck but with some noise when I stand on it, I think he hit it dead on.

The system is Sanderson shorty headers # BB8 (specifically for 73-87(91) body trucks) into 2.5" primaries then into a Flowmaster "Y" w/ collector on the back side and single 3" pipe/Magnaflow #11259 muffler/tailpipe.

Here's a video for sound but it's via my phone so it's not the best. Also, you can hear my noisy rocker that needs attention. :ears:

I trailered it, I thought about driving it back as an opportunity for more motor break in but time was short so quick in / quick out. As it turned out I'm glad I didn't try to because it has a rocker needing adjustment that I couldn't hear with open headers.

I will say that thing is FAT! I weighed it and Dodge/trailer/K5 = 16,160 lbs., I'd estimate the K5 is around 5800+lbs at this point. The truck pulled it fine but it definitely worked hard. Alternately, I pulled the Jeep the Morris Mountain this weekend and couldn't even tell it was there.

Here's a couple more pics of the exhaust to better show the "Y" pipe (you can see the rear collector @ thecrossmember), clearance around the muffler and how the tailpipe is routed. Initially I didn't want to run the tailpipe thru the frame/spring opening but to get the tailpipe to exit at the corner to avoid fumes inside it was the best option without a gay looking 90* bend.

Sorry, I have to make these attachments since Photobucket is blocked @ work. I'll put them on PB tonight.

Yessir, there is no racing with the K5 in tow. Once up to speed she cruises comfortably but granny thru 4th is working. Like I said though, with the Jeep she'll get up and run like she's empty. I told my wife that a better air intake and exhaust would help some for a little power and keep the exhaust side cooler and she said ok. :eek1: Sometime in the spring I'll hit her up for that stuff. :woot:

Alrighty, here's the 3 month update...

I had some pretty bad death wobble so I checked the caster and the driveway alignment shop said 11° (spec = 8°). I swapped the 7.25" front shackles out for some 6" ones and it brought the caster exactly to spec. It still has a little DW but it's not as bad so I'm sure it'll go away when I install the hydro assist.

While messing with the shackles I decided to add an inch of lift to help with it chewing on the core support. I added some Zero Rates I had on the shelf to the front and for the rear Santa brought me some longer shackles from Kert (Diy4x). I also reinstalled the front overload springs to compensate for the shackle length change. The end result is approx 7" of suspension lift and it sits nice and level.

This weekend I cut out some patch panels for the holes left in the firewall after I removed the a/c boxes (inside & out). I welded them in and can proudly say I have ZERO welding skills. :doah: I'm going to spray the firewall with undercoat to cover my bubble gum welding.

I also gutted the glove box and made a shelf for my MSD stuff so now the 6AL box and coil are mounted inside behind the glove box door.

Next weekend I'll be relocating the battery from the OE tray to an Artec box mounted on the firewall.

Just a side note, I remember some time back reading a comment Rene (trustyk5) made about not liking the handling characteristics after making the soft, flexing spring swap. I'm close to agreeing with him, I know crawling and flexy is in but it's not been real fun to drive so far.

I used 2" skyjacker 52s and it's very manageable. Rear 56s have 5 leafs an add a leaf and don't really do much flexin. Fronts do lots of the work.

I'd like to see some pics of this if you have some. I have all the A/C big box thing and would like to get rid of it, but keep my heater.

That's basically the same set up I have except my 56's are a 7 leaf pack. It's not "darty" like a lifted Jeep but it just sways like crazy. Hopefully whenever I add shocks it'll get better.

I can take a pic of the firewall but I have already hit it with one coat of undercoating so it might be tough to see. Also, I didn't keep any of the heater stuff either so for me it was just about covering holes.

I will say that my steering is a dream! I've never had crossover before and the feel is light and easy. It turns effortlessly. :woot:
