91 K5 -Procrastination Build - bikini top!

Yeah, B pillar floor plates and the rear half kit.

I got part of my shipment today, small parts and hardware. I was real busy this evening so I haven't gone thru the box BUT I did dig out these custom cage floor plates Kert made for me. :pimp:

Looks like those worked out fairly decent. Bending 1/4" with that short of an offset was interesting.

They fit really good, no more worrying about having to "crush" that gap with the flat plate. I really appreciate you're making them.

Now I've got to find time to work on this thing. :doah:

Is the contour on the floor in our 91's different than the earlier models?

I guess I can check in a few hours when I get home, but this may be something I have to deal with WAY down the road.

Ours should be the same but I'm not sure when that started. I'll check a parts book tonight to see what year floor pans are the same.

I checked my Mitchell manual and it looks like all 82-91 K5's should have that step in the floor.

I have the same step on my 86 floor. I just bolted the plated in place and then beat the living crap out if it with a sledge until I flattened that step below the plate :D. I did the same thing on the rear floor plates with the small steps that all the K5 beds have. Worked just fine.

Yeah I haven't studied what, if anything, to do with the rear floor yet. :doah: I think Greg72 might have had Kert make some custom plates made but I'm not sure. I do have some extra floor plates that I could cut up for shims too.

Since we're both working on the cage at the same time, I've come to a bit of a hold up that I didn't foresee and wondering if there is an easy way over this hurdle: My floor pan (assuming yours too) has another layer/pan underneath it (picture below), not sure if there is an easier way to remove it other than cutting it, but it makes the bottom not accessible to sandwich the plates. Is yours the same? Or do you have just one layer?

Not hard to cut this front one out, but the back for the B Pillar is going to be a PITA, so trying to find an easier solution.

Maybe cut a window in it but don't cut it out. That double layers are the rocker boxes that come on the 73-75 full top Blazers, it strengthens your tub since you don't have the metal roof for support. I would search and find a build thread for a 73-75 with a cage for advice.

Not having the rocker boxes is my issue. Without them when I cut the roof off my single layer tub becomes flimsy and moves around a lot. This is why I NEED to tie my cage to the body in order to add strength back in when I cut the roof off.
