91 K5 -Procrastination Build - bikini top!

Now the part I think I'm happiest about - it's got a windshield! After doing the full top conversion, I've been worried about how well I lined up the new upper frame and the new glass fitting but it fit like a glove!

Safelite sent the smallest installer they had. LOL Real nice guy and he did great work but he was tiny, shorter than the top of the bed which is about 5'6".

It really was. I was worried about it just because it was a big project and I’m not a body man, but it was compounded when another member here had to recut the windshield posts when his glass didn’t fit. :yikes:

After seeing the pics from stoney lonesome I'm really digging how your fenders are cut. Have you posted measurements of the trim or anything like that before? Looks like your still running inner fenders right?

I don't think I posted actual measurements but I can easily get them. For the most part I just cut out the factory flare around the wheel opening. On the front I was careful to leave the spots on the fender for the nut plates that the inner liners bolt to. I did have to trim a lot off of the front and rear of the liners. My cuts are similar to the old "Yunit" fender cut diagram but his cuts wont retain the front liners.

Here are some more pics of some of the stuff I did to get the blazer running for this past weekends trip to Stony Lonesome Off Road Park close to Birmingham (see Southeast forum for pics/videos).

Cage stuffs...

Stepped B pillar plates I had Kert make.

We decided to use the removable top mounting bracket holes as cage to body ties. There will be more lower later.

I feel like I had a good shakedown trip, the truck performed well although I freely admit I didn't push it. This was my first time using the Doubler and it was pretty dang cool, the truck felt like a stinkin tractor!

I did have a couple of issues;

#1) my fuel pressure slowly dropped all day Saturday from 5.5psi down to 2psi. It still runs but I chose not to wheel Sunday morning for fear of getting stranded on the far side of the park. I'm not sure if it's the regulator or pump or even the gauge, I'll spend some time on it Saturday.

#2) I had 2 problems with my tcase cable shifter - first was I forgot to close the retainers for the clevis's at tcase end of the cables so I lost a couple (way to go me). Second was that the upper shifter rail bracket from JB Fab hit the floor and wouldn't move, having the 205 clocked up 2" seems to be the issue. I didn't notice it in the shop because I did the final cable assembly and adjustment without the crossmember and front driveshaft for easier access. Obviously, that last 1/2" the crossmember raised it made all the difference. It looks like I'll have to cut and mod the floor to fix this.

#3) The steering gear box kept trying to push the original retaining ring for the end cap out. Way back when I installed the Diy4x end cap I noticed the ring was just a bent piece of small rod so it holds it's shape but does not have any tension qualities like a real internal snap ring. I'm going to try and find a real snap ring to replace it.

You can see the ring creeping out in the pic.

Hey it made it out of the garage, that was a big deal

The snap ring on the box is fun. There is a lip that is supposed to slot in. Make sure it’s indexed right

So it's possible the groove doesn't go all the way around?

Groove goes all the way around but I thought there was a tit on that ring. Maybe I was thinking of something else.

It's possible, I'll pull it and look closer. I need to spread it open to fit better anyway.

Very cool dude! That’s a successful trip in my book!

I agree and I'm really happy with it. Bugs are to be expected and none left me stranded. I'm thinking the fuel issue could be the regulator, it was on my old truck so it's been sitting for 15 yrs.
