91 Suburban V2500 - Tow/Weekend Rig - Build Thread

Ran great, but warmer than i wanted it. It runs over 210, probably 215ish, on the freeway.

Gotta figure that out next. Besides that, ran like a champ.

No check engine light! First time in a long time that i didn't have an EGR fault.

Burb has been running like a champ recently. Couple tows to tahoe, tow to shasta, doing well. Needs a trans fluid change i think, but besides that, its been killing it.

Needs tires pretty bad. But so does the BMW :doah:

Also, wish i had gotten the bigger radiator. This one heats up pretty easy. Think this fan clutch isn't the right one, may switch to electric's this winter.

Its been doing well. Been kinda eyeing dmax burb conversions on ebay, but that won't happen til i purchase a house.

The 6.0L swap looms in the back of my mind, we'll see what my winter ends up looking like. For now, its doing great, and ive been driving it on my short commute daily.

Cooling will be the next upgrade. Considering a fan cooled trans cooler, but they are $$$! Probably going to start with new windstar fans and a controller, and go from there.

Burb continues to dominate. Been putting lots of weekend miles on it.

Ordered TRE's and Drag Link Ends. Getting all new steering components before i align it, and get tires. the Camber is so F'd on this axle its not even funny. Hopefully, with an alignment, i can set the camber shims to get it acceptable. Fingers crossed.

Been watching CL like a hawk for rims/tires, but nothing in 8 lug but D-bag edition black rockstars....

If nothing pops up, i can get 4 33/12.50x16.5 BFG AT's shipped on ebay new for $800. Should be able to mount/balance and align multiple times for under $1000.

Got new shoes on the BMW, and winter is rolling in quickly, so need to get this done!

i dont know if you've checked yet, but you can look into the treadwright at's it might be a bit cheaper, although at $800 its not that big of a deal on pricing cuz thats pretty good.

Ive NEVER purchased a new set of BFG at's. so as much as i don't want to spend the money, its time. And i love the look/performance of the BFG's. Plus, with how much i drive this truck, i'll be good for another 5 yrs.

I've only put 60k on it since i've had it.

Just put new BFG AT's on my 04' suburban.......$1,300 later! :eek1:

305/65r17's.....

The worst part is, i paid about $200 for the 3/4 tread set i've run for the last few years.

Wish i could find another deal like that!

Know the feeling....

I spent around $500 for the 80% tread left BFG Mud's for the Blazer! Much better deal for sure.

Very good news! So what do you think was ultimately the culprit to your dieing issue? The distributor itself?

Distributor, then coil.

Ign components in general. Also fixed some bare wiring around the module, and did some cleanup of old wiring on the motor.

Seems good to go for a bit!

So, pulled the trigger on some new shoes.

Same 33x12.50r16.5 BFG AT's, Load Range D.

Best deal i could find was Ebay motors, shipped for $800.

Now I need to replace all my steering joints (sitting in the garage), get a proper alignment, including setting proper camber via shims, and get them mounted.

Anyone have a favorite tire place that offers lifetime balance? My last set got horribly out of balance, but i never dealt with it because they were cheap. This set i'll be into close to $1000, so i'll keep them better balanced and rotated. Scary to think these should carry my truck past 300k....

My buddy works for America's tire so that's always been our stop, but I think you're gonna have problems since you didn't buy them from there. Any shop should still mount balance and rotate, but you're gonna have to pay each time

i hate to say it but around here walmart is the cheapest at balancing tires when you dont buy them at a local tire shop.

Not going to walmart.

Had sorta forgotten about equal though. I need to dig up a thread on that stuff, now would be the time to try it!

I used the Innovative Balancing beads and a competitor's brand. Better than Equal and worked great for me.
