'93 Blazer build thread

I'm not a fan of exo's (with the exception of a few toyotas I've seen), they always seem like an after-thought and way too busy. Why not just cage it out on the inside?

thanks for all the input, I personally like exo cages if they are done tastefully and aren't just a hodgepodge of random tube or have the tube floating off the sheet metal like 2 or 3 inches(or more)as i've seen with some. I think the 3rd gen's lend themselves as better exo platforms because the front sheetmetal tapers down in the front so it doesn't give off a blocky look like the 1st or 2nd gen GM's can have(not bashing on those body styles, just my observation and opinion)

mine will be well thought out, as form fitting and "flowing" as possible, and free of unnecessary excess tube, i may do something different with the fender bars as i'm not set on that design, just a quick idea that popped in my head at the time

finally got some dirt under it's tires, woohoo!...well kinda, I finished up the brakes and took it out for a spin, it drove really nice and straight just a little bumpy from the flat spots in the bias tires, but it wasn't bad.

i know i know:doah: soon enough haha, I still need to buy two rims to match the two i got off craigslist

i almost crapped myself the other day though, i took the truck out for another quick drive and it started hesitating off idle and wouldn't idle smooth at all, then i got home and it died and wouldn't start again:eek1:...just in time to make it home at least

so i started searching online for similar symptoms and solutions people had and i narrowed it down to the fuel pump and replaced the pump relay while i was at it, $8 part so might as well, but everything is running smooth once again, i'm hopefully going to take it out to a local spot tomorrow and have some fun

didn't get any video:doah: just got a few cool pics from yesterday

and this is my buddy's '84 Jimmy, the reason for the honeycomb paint is his family is into bee keeping and the truck was used to advertise their business

yes, extremely happy, i didn't even have the front driveshaft in so this was all in 2wd but the rear detroit definitely helps. I was in my mid range with the dual cases and it powered right up this concrete thing with little effort.

nothing bound up, the brake line lengths seemed good, the front drooped side in the pic still had a lot of slack on the line so no issues there, and the hydro assist kept me in control no matter how fast or slow i was going over the deep ruts, and i even got to yank my friend out of a mudhole so my d-ring mounts got tested as well:waytogo:

the only problem that i could see was the backspace on these rims is too deep for where the crossover arm places the tie rod and it rubs slightly on the tire, but im going with shallower rims and may need a 1/4" spacer perhaps as well, but we'll see

all in all it was awesome smashing around in the dirt again after so long

my rim stiffeners finally came in and got them welded up today

i cut away a half circle on each ring to clear the valve stems

now just need to mount up the stauns and tires

im going to paint the ring white and leave the wheel black to match the theme of the truck

Cool, let us know how the Staun's work out. I'm interested in them because of the double beadlock they offer without having to go the re-centered H1 route.

so after separating my front driveshaft in my driveway the other weekend and ruining the splines(kinda a long story so won't bore you guys there)
i bought a used '03 Ford F250/350 front driveshaft off eBay for $100(they have 1350 CV and yoke joints), 24" of receiver tubing, and 24" of 2"x 3/16"
wall square tubing to build a square front shaft.

here's what i have so far...

cut the yoke really short and ground a square to key into the 2" tubing

then cut a square into the CV head and i'll probably notch the receiver tubing somehow to fit further down to add strength just like the yoke

the bolt pattern is the same but the pilot hole in the center is a bit smaller so i need to figure something out there as well

got the square shaft finished up and installed, i clearanced the pilot hole with a simple grinding stone and a hand drill, didn't take much to make it fit

all in all not bad for a $180 full 1350 driveshaft

and you can see how the white rings on the black rims look too
