93 Blazer - Project race truck!

So, I had some fun yesterday :D 1st place overall in my class! I took 2nd place for the drag races and 1st place for the slalom. I'll post vids and pics as I see em online...

Carnage included a ripped off air dam, broken off mirror and a mangled upper balljoint(bent, not broken). I actually finished a run with it messed up and drove it back onto the trailer. Not bad for totally dominating the competition in the slalom event haha! I ran it in 116sec, the next fastest in my class was 121sec.

The fastest run of the day was in a hugely built rig driven by a 30yr seasoned veteran racer who finished it in 105sec. I beat a purpose built slalom truck with a 454, tires, link suspension and quick ratio steering by 1 sec with my bone stock truck on 265/75r16 street tires lol!:waytogo:

That just proves if you can't drive you still loose no matter how built your truck is. :thumb:

So... After having a closer look, it would appear that I actually broke the unit bearing. The rest of the front end seems to have held up pretty dang good considering how much time the truck spent airborne! I'll be replacing the unit bearing tomorrow!

I also, however, need to install a cage, race seats, 5 point harness and window nets before I take it racing again on the first weekend of July! I was looking at the Corbeau stuff, specifically their Baja RSX seats and 5 point latch & link harnesses. I was told by a number of folks not to bother cause they are crap though. So I'm looking for opinions!

I'm a size 38 belly (34 waist, lol) and weigh about 220 lbs. I'm 5'11, so not overly tall either.

Also, PICTARS!!!! :woot:

Unfortunately, very few of me in the air... I am looking for the video, my first run I got a solid 3ft off the big jump at the back. In the pictures all I can find is a picture of the suspension solidly planted before it launches, lol
Whatchy'all say?

Used to know a guy up in Canadia there that did those time trials and offroad races in a Suzuki Sidekick. Nothing fancy, just an Old Man Emu 1.5" lift, some 29" muds, and a locker. He'd kick ass all the time partly because people underestimated his rig. He loved picking on the Rover guys especially.

Finally got around to replacing the unit bearing on the truck tonight. Talk about an easy swap!

Interestingly enough, the CVs and brakes are brand spankin' new on the truck. Don't even have any rust on them yet. The unit bearing was completely pooched though, lol!

I still need to pick out a set of race seats and harnesses. I may just go for the Corbeau stuff. I don't really spend a lot of time in the truck, so I am not super concerned with comfort. Penny is build for comfort, the little black truck is for speed ;)

While racing class 1 I removed my suspension seats and put in a "road race" type of recaro seat, my back felt trendously better after that. When you're belted in, the suspension in the seat allows your body to sink into the seat, as the seat pushes you back up the belts stop you hard and fast, very hard on your spine. That applies to jumping, whoops and rollovers at speed.

Just food for thought.

Lots of guys over at RDC going on about this, I agree with your POV, I think there is something to that, notice that prp, mastercraft etc have all started producing hard shell seats for the big boys..

With years of time spent in Ultra4 rigs, I agree that a rigid seat is better than something with a suspension. I don't really get a sore back from them, but my shoulders take a beating from the seat belts and I find it is tough to get the belts tight enough to keep you from bouncing around in the seat.

I sold this Blazer ages ago btw! Never got paid for it either, d'oh! Gal paid me $300 out of $1500 up front, promised to pay off the balance with her next cheque and never paid the rest up.
