Well I noticed a bit of a lifter tick, so I set all the lifters yesterday. Ended up only really having one slightly loose one, runs real quiet now. It has 882 heads, figured id check the numbers while it was apart.

Also figured Id take the el cheapo MR gasket chrome valve covers on it off in favour for some stock pieces. So figured they should be chevy orange, probably picked up a easy 20 horse with the new tins :haha:

How I set valves, stock cover with the top cut off. Works great:

No real tech updates, havent done anything with it lately.

Traded my 84k5 for a 88 last week and am working on cleaning it up a bit to sell.

A buddy of mine has a open carrier for a 14 bolt, so am gonna snag her up than prob start saving for a Grizzly.

Update, went wheelin on sunday. Flogged her pretty hard. My lock right started makin funny noises and slipping on one side. So we limped it out of the bush and got her home. It wore the 2 halves of the locker funny on the driversside. It looks pretty much shot. Not sure why it did that, everything measures within spec :dunno:

Aside from that the day was good, climbed some steep azz hills. My buddy brought his ton on 40's rollin open diffs. I was able to go everywhere a bit easier and slower I noticed :D

Also I got a 13 bolt diff cover from undercover fab, yeah i know its a jeep site :haha:

Ordered a Grizzly for the 14 bolt as well.

Some wheelin pic's:

Also its got a cold start problem. Seems like the accelerator pump is weak or something. If you manually prime the carb it fires up no problem. Otherwise it will just crank. Guess Ill add that to the list of things to do.

Ordered some new plug wires/boot protectors/cap n rotor/ recurve kit for the dizzy. Figured id get some plug boot protectors so I dont burn any more wires off :haha:

I've never heard of a 13 bolt diff cover. I assume that the bottom bolt is the one that's missing? Please post a pic of your axle after you get it put on there. I'd like to see how you have the housing ground down for the 13 bolt cover to fit.

update:

Ended up putting a fuel pump in, seems to have fixed the starting problems. lol.

While putting a recurve kit in the dizzy, I noticed everything is pretty well worn out. Guess Ill have to change it out.

Finally got my grizzly a week ago, so I picked up some carrier bearings and swapped that out. I checked the backlash before I pulled the gov-lock in a few spots and got average of .008. With the new carrier I put some new bearings on and set the back lash to .006 average. Also My marks were pretty close on the adjusters between the 2 carriers.

Than this morning I shaved the diff, marked the cover for the drain hole location which Ill put on at a later date. So for now I just have the stock rear cover.

I than took the lock right apart and flipped it around, put a new spring and pin kit in it too. It still makes some noise but seems to stay locked under power. As near as I can tell the carrier is worn funny on the one side that is giving me troubles. Guess Ill just run it till its shot than go from there.

Went for a good shaker this afternoon, all i gotta say is I got lots of traction. I quite like how the grizzly works. I should have some pic's up sunday :thumb:

Well I scored a couple hei distributors from a buddy. So I swapped out the old one today, messed around with it a bit. It still has a bog off idle, but its actually driveable now :haha:

Cool. Maybe I missed it, but where did you get that diff cover from? That thing looks sick. Also, what did you use to cut the piece off the axle housing? Your cut was perfect.

And lastly, you guys with all that nice cool weather this time of year and snow still on the ground make me sick! I almost got literally sick this weekend because it was right at 90 degrees outside at my house! :mad1: Reminds me that I need to hurry up and do all the work that needs doing on my truck real soon before I can't stand being out there for the rest of the year.

Have a nice day and keep up the good work! :thumb:

Thanks.

The cover came from undercover fab. I just used a 4.5" angle grinder, took about 15 minutes. I prob could have did more smoothing on the sides and what not, but really the only thing dragging is the bottom so I took the easy route :D

We lucked out here with some real nice spring weather, so i figured Id give her on the weekend. Probably helps we only had 8" of snow throughout the winter :haha:

finally junked the lock right.

Well, went wheeling. Finished my lock right off, figured it wouldnt really last that long . I think Im going to order a Grizzly for the front as well .

A couple wheelin pic's:
