97 sas'sy Sierra/ 80 Cheep 10: tales of a phat block

Went to fire the k10 up, battery was low. So boosted it, Must have a charging issue/battery cables are hokey. It has developed a slight bottom end knock, not that it matters :haha:

Couple friends came out, one with a stock Toyota on 31s and the other keeps his xj on 33's where my k10 sits.

We had a **** ton of rain over the last few days, so things were extra soggy.

Only got a couple pics as it was pretty well dark when we went wheelin.

The k10 post mud

Buddies yota stuck.

Was a good night other than we had to boost that k10 like a million times :doah:

Well guess I should update this, got out wheelin couple weeks back. Pushed some water over my headlights :doah::haha:

One rear spring hanger appears to have oblonged itself again. Prob end up pulling it out and plating it.

Got some pics and vids to toss up yet.

Buddies k20 on 37s, this hill had a spring on it. He slipped and slid his way up. My k20 walked up it like it was paved, guess that's what lockers and swampers do :haha:

Had to tow buddies rubicon up it.

Man you got dang near vertical on that ride. :haha: ... on my computer screen at least.

A bolt must have come loose on the rear spring hanger.

All fixed :haha:

Yeah it was like it when I bought the truck. I welded it all up when I did the shackle flip.....5 years ago :haha: maybe fix it better this time.

Now it looks a lot less dramatic though.

What about the other pickup you got? Done anything else with it?

Been busy with the Beaumont and lake stuff.....so no to answer your question :haha:

Might mess with it one of these days again.

You may get bored this winter. Don't you have a shop to work in when it snows?

I finally got an engine put in mine. I thought about setting me up a tripod like you had, but I didn't have any poles that tall lying around. I just used a normal cherry picker. My life is much more boring than yours. :haha:

Where the k10 is I don't, but it's at my buddies junkyard. He runs tow truck and rents a shop so I could prob swing something.

Usually just wrench outside, even in the cold lol.

I do have a 16x36 garage at home I'm finishing, but it's a couple hours from
Both trucks.

Yeah using the poles was badass, kind of something neat my old man taught me anyways.

I feel you. I've been working that engine swap outside in the hot sun and heat. Luckily it's been under 100 F so far. Plus I hung a 12x20 ft. tarp. That made all the difference. Those guys with their shops have got it made though. Maybe one day...

I think the tripod would have worked great because it would have let the engine straight up and down. With the cherry picker, I had to let the truck down as low as possible with the wheels off and max out the height of the hoist. That made the arm have to operate with a big arc. Kind of a pain. You wouldn't notice it with a normal height car or truck, I don't think. Oh well. It's done now. :D Doesn't sound as good as yours though.

One of those cheap 10x10 canopies would work well for outside work to keep the sun off of you.

I've thought about getting one of those. My brother had one at his house, but some wind came along blew it down. I think it damaged his car too. It may have been at night or something, so he didn't know it was flapping around. I can't remember because it was several years back. I got the 12x20 tarp at Northern Tool for $11 on sale. Best $11 I ever spent too. I wouldn't have been able to put in those 12 hour days out there in that sun without it. I had it tied up to my dad's carport, an old basket ball goal, and whatever else I could find. :haha: Had a broom stick in the middle keeping it up off my head.

Yeah you would have to move it or take it down if weather was bad, couldn't leave it there.

We've got a couple 8x10x20' sheds at home, as long as they are sheltered well they seem
To hold up fine. I had one take a 50mph gusting windstorm, it tore the tarp a bit but it survived fine.

We find anchoring them to railway ties makes the world of difference. Also guy has to keep the snow off em, they don't seem to like lots on them.

Well did some discussing with the lady friend, and we decided imma build a lake truck out of the k10. So here's my plan on the cheep:

Have some scrap steal and a Warn 8074 that did work Im told laying around. Prob build bumper and mount it, recess it into the grill like I did on my K5.

Put front cab supports in, change door.

Needs a heater core

Prob will end up snagging Max02's old 305 outta the ratbag in September. Got a line on a L79 cam, as well as a cheep edelbrock performer intake.

Fix some u joints, wheel bearings etc etc.

Weld the rear end perhaps?

Should be a nice little rig I can use to launch the boat and leave at our cabin. Should save having to take my 97 every time we go. With the price of fuel won't take long to pay for itself.
