97 sas'sy Sierra/ 80 Cheep 10: tales of a phat block

On a totally unrelated note, does your buddy have any more of those '88-'93 model steering wheels? I can't find one locally that anyone will sell me because all the yards want to keep them on the steering column so they can sell them as one unit. They're refusing my cash offers, so I'm reaching out as far as Canada. Next step will be the classified section I guess. <sigh> I have a couple of the '81-'87 style wheels laying around, but I don't want to use them. The Grant GT I have on there is not a good setup and I don't really trust it fully. Plus it blocks the gauges from my vantage point since I put bucket seats in there that are lower than the stock seat.

Dude. You can rebuild a TH350 yourself. I rebuilt a TH400 last summer. It wasn't too hard. A few special tools were needed, but I was able to improvise. The rebuild kit was under $150 USD and a factory rebuilt B&M torque converter was under $100, maybe $60 (I think). Just get a shop manual off eBay or somewhere so you can see how to do it and what the proper tolerances are. You have to measure the endplay and use shims to get the input shaft to act right. If I can do it, I know you can. It's worth a try at least. I mean what else are you going to do this winter while it's snowing outside? :D Look at the experience you'll gain, plus you'll save over half the money you would spend. Unless you just don't feel like doing it...

I know I can do it. I was seriously debating it. Aside from the couple tools I need. I know the parts up here would be $4-500. Just a converter is $200 on eBay. So for the extra $300 its worth it for someone else to do it.

That's a lot of money for a TH350. Is stuff really that much more expensive up there?

I paid $1100 for a trans shop to build the turbo 350 that I put in the Beaumont few years back. Same shop had wanted $600 to regear the ten bolt in the Beaumont. The guy who will do my trans charged $300 back than.

Hindsight though, I have no problem doing diffs. Never done a gear swap, but plenty of lockers, posi's.

So yeah some things are quite expensive up here. I try not to order from summit, rather my local speed shop. For the most part it's comparable in pricing. But with the price of the dollar right now and add on duties/taxes it can get up there real fast

Did some horse tradin for one of my rc's today. Teeth have hardly any wear, can't see any where the cross pin rides either. Figured it was a fair trade, hope it fits :haha:

You got a 10 bolt in back of the 80?

How's the th350 coming along?
