I've always had a soft spot for the 2 doors since having a 93 in High School and I knew it was only a matter of time until I had another :D

A good friend of mine had a 97 and I told him if ever wanted to sell it that I would buy it. Here we are a couple years later he decided to sell it and with full support of my roommate (wife) we made a deal.

It's a 97 Sport with 143K on it, bone stock with records back to the first owner in 97 including the window sticker from the dealer. The transmission was rebuilt and only has about 10K on it. It needs some of the gray paint touched up (fender flares and grill) however there isn't a single dent on it anywhere.

The tires were shot, cracked side walls and I found a huge bulge on the RR tire when I pulled them off. So I've been looking for some wheels for the last few weeks and stumbled upon these 17x9 with near new Nitto Terra Grapplers

Cleaned them up and popped them on last night

Still trying to figure out the rim manufacturer, they PO told me Mickey Thompson but I can't find an MT rim with a two bolt center cap like these ones have :dunno:

In the next couple days I need to:
1) Change the oil/filter & fuel filter
2) Swap out the idler arm (done 11/2015)
3) Smog it
4) Replace the steering wheel position sensor (might be OK after idler arm and bearing replacement 11/2015)

And the roommate thinks this is her new wheels :doah:but I think she'll get over it after learning the comfort of this rig is nowhere near the 02 she drives now.

Nice find. Need to paint up the front grill.

Looks great. Love the new wheels. Those stock ones are like my number 1 most hated gm wheel :haha:

I have plenty of those friends too. Just need to find a paint close enough in a rattle can but I haven't been able to find any info online. Guess I'll try a couple cans.

I agree, those wheels bring the suck. My 93 had them too:doah:

I had the same problem with an Xterra I just had, I bought some auto trim paint at home depot. It sprayed on and almost a dark OD green. I thought, "SH*T! that looks like SH*T, I don't want that on there." but after it dried and cured it lost the greenish tint and looked pretty good. I will look to see what it was when I get home. It did hold up well.

Theres a 2dr Gray Yukon 350/NV3500 4wd out there Im still hoping to get a call on one day from an old teacher of mine from college...

I'm going to mess around with the paint this weekend.

That would be a great rig.

There was a diesel on CL last year with a manual on CL, pretty cool and very rare I'd imagine. It was a factory diesel so no smog here in CA which made it pretty desirable.

Last night I ended up changing the oil and fuel filter, hopefully I have time to hit the smog station today so I can finalize the DMV paperwork. Also picked up a new idler arm setup, I'll take care of that either tonight or tomorrow.

I want one of these bad. There's one for sale close to me but they want like 6k with 180000 on it.... nope.

Some people think they're worth more than they really are......

and the Smog Check is done.

Those Nazi's put it on the rollers for some reason but it still passed :woot:

I don't get it, that's the same crap I was dealing with when I was looking. Way over priced. Way to many miles, and I was looking over ten yrs ago! So I picked up my current DD.

When I bought the truck in 2002. It was a' 93 with 67,xxx miles, 454, 4L80E, FF 14 bolt with 4.10's sle trim, no rust, all original paint, some sort of heavy duty spring package for the rear leaves.

GREAT truck, paid 7 bills. Much better deal then the BEAT tahoes I was finding.
Still runs like a champ, doesn't look to bad to boot, starting to show some age, will prob go solid axle under her in the next yr or so. Sorry for the jack...

Looks great!

Really want to SAS one of those. I had a white 94 that i loved. my First truck.

I tried a couple different paints over the weekend and neither was close enough. I didn't see the paint you linked, I'll have to look for that one.

I know Wally World and Home Depot carries it. But beyond that, who knows..

Thought I would update this thread with a few things.

Couple months ago the water pump failed so I replaced that along with the upper and lower rad hoses and at least one heater hose that I remember.

I may have mentioned this earlier in the thread but this rig does some weird stuff when turning. What I mean is that whenever you turn it tends to oversteer, it's really odd and scary as hell if it's wet out. On the passenger side I felt a little slop in the steering which appeared to be the Idler Arm. I had a Silverado that did something similar and it was a wheel bearing so I decided to buy a pair of front Timken wheel bearing assemblies from Rock Auto. While installing those I also decided to replace the brakes which had plenty of life left but the pads were really eating into the rotors.

New bearings, rotors and pads

Seems to be driving much better now and it stops really well.

Still can't find that damn gray paint, I think I'm going to see if I can get the factory paint codes off it somewhere and order some online.

Gmt400s are known to have idler arm issues. Good work:thumb:

Thanks.

When I grabbed the passenger tire at 9 and 3 o'clock I could see the idler arm rock around with the drivers tire planted on the ground.

I'm pretty sure the bearings were on their way out, the grease smelled HORRID once I broke the axle nuts lose. So bad my wife came out to the garage and wanted to know why the house was smelling like burnt shit :screwy:
