'99 4 Door Tahoe SAS Build, Taking it back a few years

Any progress on the bumper build? How you liking the ultra bead locks so far? After a lot of searching they look to be the most budget friendly set out there.

Progress on the bumper has been slow, and i expected it. But i have to say that my welding is getting better, and i am happy with how it has turned out so far. I'll post pictures of the process of the bumper build when i get a little closer to completion.
As far as the Ultra wheels, I'm loving them! No issues, and none expected. They perform well and I'm very pleased. I have about 2500 road miles on them and 3 separate wheeling trips. I check the clamping studs regularly and none have backed off. Will continue to keep an eye on them, but for now i'd recommend these wheels to anyone who's looking for a set of aluminium beadlocks.

Bumper is still under construction, but at a functional point right now. Still have some welds to clean up, the spare tire carrier to build, then paint. IMG_5321.JPGIMG_5391.JPG

I did take a break from work and the bumper build to hit the local trails on Saturday. Teamed up with a local Jeep club and ended up having a really good time. Love running with groups that start out laughing because im wheeling a full size, then spend the rest of the time amazed.

How did I get it in my head you all were from Louisiana?

When I attended Blazer Bash last year, I still lived in Louisiana. I moved just across the state line into Texas at the end of last year. Still drive into LA to work everyday.

We need to go to Gilmer. I won't give you weird looks.
David
Yep! That needs to happen soon! And I'm anxious to see that awesome Suburban. Me and my now fiancé made this trip on short notice and stayed 2 nights up there this weekend. The place really rocks for this area!

Received my New front and rear driveshafts from Tom Woods this week. I was able to get them installed, and they fit like a glove. My original rear shaft was just a little short, causing some drive line vibrations at speeds above 70. The front was an old shaft removed from a '90 model k5. Needless to say, it had some slip yoke wear. I'll continue to carry both old shafts as spares.
Now my new discovery: with the new rear shaft installed, upper 70's is comfortable now without the vibration. But it exposed 2 new problems. Fuel mileage sucks!! (Who would have thunk it?) Was averaging 12.5 on the Hwy with the cruse set between 68 and 70. With cruse set at 76, it's averaging 9 mpg at best. The other issue is the tire noise. The IROKs are irritating and almost unbearable above 75. They won't be my next choice for tires.

Thanks David! you too!

Tahoe seems kinda thrown together this time around. And by that I don't mean mechanically. Haven't had time to wash and detail it. And my spare parts, clothes and gear are being just randomly thrown in as I'm typing this.
Leaving out of here in just a few hours. Look forward again to seeing you all there!

Many pics to follow.
