'99 4 Door Tahoe SAS Build, Taking it back a few years

did you brace your shock towers any?

Nope. But good question. They are welded on pretty solid to the side of the frame. I think they will be just fine. Now if I was running coil overs, it would be a totally different story.

I have "heard" of people ripping those mounts off when not braced, even without coil overs. Not every rig is the same though, but just something to think about

I have these same mounts and never had an issue....HOWEVER....mine are modified and do not go that high above the frame. I second what warrpathh4x4 is saying and I would brace those a little bit. Since you already welded them to the frame, I would make just a simple little brace on the backside of the mount that at least goes about halfway up the shock tower and then connects to the top of the frame (if that makes sense at all). Don't need to get crazy, just something simple and it wouldn't take you that long. Just something back there for added measure. I know this is still leaf sprung, but those mounts are still going to see stress when on the trail.

I like this build though. Keep it up. I love these body styles with a SAS on them.

Thanks for the input guys! And with what y'all have said, I agree. It may or may not need to be braced, but it would be so easy to do, so why not?
I'll probably keep it simple, and take some pics when I'm done to add to the thread.

Agreed.

Do I think the first time you drive the truck they are going to rip off the truck and you are going crash into a bus full of nun's? Absolutely not! But over time I think they would start to show signs of wear and tear. And like you said, no need to go nuts with it. Just something simple back there is all you need.

Yeah Keith made sure I had a plate welded in place on the frame for the shock mount on mine just to avoid problems.

Like this. Also, I kinda wish I had pushed my towers up a little higher like you did, I don't have a whole lot of room.

Ya, I wanted to get all the range I could out of them. The plate you have does give the frame a much cleaner look. I'm going to add to the strength and drill the two 1/2" holes out and bolt the bracket to and through the frame. that's how Ford had them attached. That, with the welding and the bracing, will be more than enough strength.

What size tires did you have on the suburban with 7 inches of lift?
The same 37" military Goodyears that are going to be run on the Tahoe. It's just that my street set were on aluminum wheels for a little bling. I ran the bead locks the few times I wheeled it. But with 7" total lift, 40's would have fit with no problem.

Looking forward to seeing you there! :D
Thanks! And I'm so looking forward to it myself. Ready to meet this great group of people who enjoy wheeling the big iron Chevy's and GMC's. Not a lot of that happening in my part of the country. Just tractor tired mud trucks and Jeeps Jeeps Jeeps Jeeps and Jeeps.

Lookin real good dood!!!

Did you have an clearance issues with the RH shackle mount hitting the exhaust?
