A little Sunday, fun day, progress. I'll let the pics do the talkin today. :D

Cleaned up the garage. It turned into a huge mess within the last couple of weeks.

Pulled out the '69, with a '69...:waytogo:

Kinda mocked up the tank and the rear bumper. Man, I totally forgot how far that thing sticks out past the frame. This is where a lot of sitting, measuring and thinking began.

Diff clearance..:pimp:

Figured out the hitch is going to need to go low..

Goodbye rear crossmember and #5 holes. :thumb:

Let's not hate on the angle iron just yet... I think it will work out nice with the rear shackles.

All bolted in at the rear flips. The will also get bolted from the bottom for the hitch rails too.. Added a crossmember for the time being. This will get welded to the angle.

Some fab work will be needed to pass the bolt area and the top frame bolts.

Ill need to start the lamination process, like the front for the rear shackles.

And that's about it. I'll need to get back after it this week. She had to sleep outside last night. :doah:

You building a diving platform off the back of your truck? :haha:

Seriously, I guess I'd just forgotten how far the bumper actually sits from the rear body mount holes....

Glad to see I'm not the only guy building an 8000lb 1st Gen! :)

Ladies and Gentlemen ........imagine if you will. A man under a pop up shelter in a quite town in northern California. A man so obsessed with keeping his stock bumpers his descent into madness begins anew. Will he return to a land where everyone just takes the easier route and builds custom bumpers. Or will he return at all. That remains to be seen, for in his world not all is as it seems

The diving platform was just about what I was thinking when I threw the bumper on. All of the plans I had in my head beforehand went out the window. It's close to 7" from the center of #5 to the back side of the bumper. Kinda cool having another 1st gen to confirm the number sitting in the driveway. :pimp:

I need to look at Mosesburb's to see what he did for his tire carrier. Looks like a lot of crap is going to end up back there to make this all work. If I'm wrong, I'll just wait till you do yours and copy it. :D

I have some crappy cell service at this new job site. Every once in while I could pop in and see replies. This one had me rolling. :haha:

You of all people know I'm too dumb to turn back now. :doah: Gotta see if I can pull off the back like I did it to the front. If it works, I think it will be pretty cool.

If I do pull the stock reinforced bumper thing off though, there is going to be one rule for you. Maybe I'll even get stickers so you'll remember...

"This is not a step" :thumb:

I've already seen what you can do to an empty Mountain Dew can. :haha:

looks beef.... :D

I could finish finish that statement in so many damn ways. Lol

Im trying to beef it up just a tad. A little bar here with a weld there type of thing. Eric and I both will be riding in this together someday. I'd hate for the frame to fold up like a taco due to our girthieness..:eek1:

Or I could just be really, really stupid. It's tough to tell sometimes. :D

Hopefully, I'll get back out there tomorrow night to at least get it to be a roller again. Figures, it has not rained in 6 months. The time I want to bring it out to work in it, it's supposed to rain on Wednesday.

Always like to read the comments after you post something new Mike. :haha:

I got nothing funny to add. :dunno: Must be a lack of Neer.

Looking good though! :thumb:

But, I bet if there was a package of Oreos on the counter, you'd get up for a small stack of 15 or so of those, huh?

 :haha:

Have you had the mint ones? yah stack of gimme the whole box and no you can't have any comes to mind

C is for COOKIE:haha::haha:

And just so I sound semi useful I think that lower portion of the bumper is gonna be the worst cause it looks like it will catch on everything maybe a rear skidplate back there

Yeah, I hear you on the back hitch area. I can raise it pretty well up to the bottom of the frame rails. It looks like I can raise the LP in its hole too by about an inch, even more if I cut off the California part. :D I guess it all depends on where the bumper planes in at. As it sits, it still needs to be raised 1" for the BL.

I do plan on having a skid back there. Something like what Kert bent up for Zim.

I think I'll use 1/2" bullet proof plate steel tho. I plan on putting a lot of holes in it to keep the weight down and have some drainage for crud. It would be cool if I could get the sides laser cut like the bowtie on Zimms too. I don't really want the Bowtie, tho. I have a name picked out for the skid that might be cool for the sides.

Whatcha think? :dunno: :D

Best idea EVAAAR!!!!! :haha:

Better than speed holes though.....drill the holes about 1-3/4" diameter and sleeve them with thin walled tubing that's maybe 4" long. Cap the end on the far side and you've got OREO cookie storage! More holes, more cookies.... if you ever get stranded, you can simply remove the weatherproof cap, and enjoy a half-sleeve of cookies while you figure out what to do.

I fully support this idea

I think you should keep at it with your stock bumpers, I like that look. :waytogo:

Also, in addition to milk, they have to be double stuff.
