A low slung old chevy on rockwells... it can be done

enjoyed the build, welcome to CK5. We need more doctors to class up the place :waytogo:

Man that looks so good. Now you got to get the front going.... :hack::grind::weld:

Always on my a$$ about the looks of my rig :angry1::weapon17:

Very nice. Just finished the whole build thread. Can't wait to get another rig and load my 2 boys up in the backseat like you do yours!!! Keep it up.

Thanks for following... when next years TTC comes around... please vote :D

Yeah, I agree a fang on either side would look nice.:thumb:

If u look close, there is a little bit of a front fender left... :haha:

If you are looking for class... I am not your guy :thumb:

I love the skins, that looks perfect sir:waytogo:

Thanks, sometimes I hate working on stuff that doesn't change performance, but it's rewarding to have it finally looking better.

I'm just keeping you on your toes :draw:....and didn't you know that is why I exists?

Already took the words out of my mouth. Don't let the doctor title get confuse with class when talking about this guy :haha:

Just read the build. Wow thats a huge transformation. Rig is looking great! especially with the rear fender skins on there.

Not to hyjack the tread but do you have any trouble hauling that around with your suburban? I know you rebuilt the motor and swapped out the axles for heavier ones. Just curious with you in the mountains and the new trailer setup. Was curious.

Keep up the great work. Gives me inspiration for mine.

Funny you should ask....

I just picked this bad boy up this morning

91 IH 4700 with a 245hp all mechanical dt466, 6 speed manual, 22.5" rims. It has some cosmetic things i need to work on but is mechanically sound... and it has 50K miles on it :woot:. I plan on ditching the dump bed and throwing a flatbed on it to haul my rig, and then pull my triple axle trailer with another rig on that.

But as for the Burb, it tows it just fine. Stock it had the "heavy duty tow package" which meant it came with the same leaf springs as the 2500hd's. It runs 245/75/r16 tires (stock) which helps with gearing. I switched from 3.73's to 4.11's with the AAM11.5" diff swap. LQ4 6.0L has an LS6 cam, 8.1L injectors, spectre intake, gibson catback exhaust, lower stall big block converter, and a 150tunes.com custom tune with quicker, firmer shifts. Also upgraded the pads and rotors. Before all that it could hardly tow my rig on a car hauler, now it tows the whole setup (about 10k) just fine. Right now the biggest thing holding it back is the 4.80e gearing. A 6 speed would be nice  . An 8.1L burb would be nice, but my wife daily drives this thing so it does weekend warrior duty.

It will hold 65mph in 3rd up standard 2-4% grades, mountain grades will slow down and have to kick 2nd, but it will hold 50mph at about 3700 rpms up about anything. The nice thing is the LS motors rev high so you just get used to keeping the motor above 2500 rpms, and pre-emptively downshift or speed up to get in the right rpm's to tackle the hill. I don't win any races, but tows it safely.

Man, your blazer is lookin sweet. I like the direction you have went with it. I've thought of doing something similar many times. Maybe someday.

Thanks, it's taken a while. Pretty much 4 years to the day since I sold my 10 bolts and bought the first rockwell. I could have been a lot further a lot sooner if I had 10 g's to throw at it immediately, but I have slowly built it, wheeling in between builds, which I think is best if you only have one wheeler.

Happy independence day everyone... if you see anyone desecrating the flag give them a big kick in the crotch for me.

I also feel that gets you to know the truck better than throwing money at it and not knowing what you or the vehicle is capable of.

Or, just a bunch of this...:weapon2::weapon3::weapon11::weapon34:

Semi looks sick. Can't wait to see the jimmy on the back of that thing

I forgot about these pics, so I will throw them up here. I have been getting some questions about the front wrap bars so here are some better poser flex pics of how they are working. I also put on some front limit straps, they are 1" shorter than the shocks and I have them bungeed to the frame so when relaxed they aren't rubbing on anything. Flex pics are at almost full droop, not quite.

I know... I know, I need a better bump stop setup, and the blocks can twist a little, fixes are in the works

Have those bars made a noticeable difference?

Martin

Absolutely. Before I made them, with these springs, just hitting the brakes from 10mph to stop would wrap my axle probably 10 degrees, now it is maybe 1 or 2. Also the wheel hop while sitting and spinning on the rocks is substantially better. It definitely isn't like a 4 link, but it is much better in every way. Throttle response in the front is better, and it seems to handle the bumps better.

Is there a reason you didn't put them in double shear on the front spring hanger?

Martin

Martin

They are, look at the last pic, it's a 5/8" bolt that goes through both sides of the spring hangers with a bolt sleeve to keep the heim centered. I did single shear when I built the first one just because I was using the hardware I had.

I really like your set up it is bad ass. I came across a video while looking for info.

Thanks.

Well I have decided to tow my setup to blazerbash with the International, so I have been daily driving it. I freshened up the interior a little bit, and with do some maintenance. I have to build a flatbed on it in the next 5 weeks (at least good enough to put my rig on it and have lights/trailer hooked up to it).

Crunch time!

You better hurry up! I want to be riding in style and comfort in Moab while we tow both our rigs at the same time :thumb:.

Knowing how fast you work, if all you really have to do is the flatbed (doesn't even need to be fully finished, just functional) and have trailer hook ups to tow my trailer around, you should have that done in no time
