Abusfullofnuns Suburban going long in the rear

I ran them on some of the utility company trucks I worked on when I was down in Moab and they do great.

Not much to update today. I had an employee related issue that has commanded my attentiom the last couple of days. The expansion boxes came in today, and I had all 10 minutes to work on the truck.

I was able to cut down a 12mmx1.5 bolt and get the head plugged up. Took 3 stores before I found the right bolt, and they didn't have anything short. Bled the coolant system because it lost a bunch. I planned to do the old switch-a-roo when I realized I was ill-prepared.

Hopefully, tomorrow I'll remove the aftermarket tach, 3 gauge(oil, temp, trans) pod, and at least connect the uego, . If I'm lucky, I'll be able to connect the turn signals, e-brake light, and 4x4 light. I'm unimpressed with the wiring mess behind the cluster and am having a hard time not cleaning it all up. I'm haven't had a chance to really sit down and see what's going on. I like tidy and clean...this was not. I didn't see anything concerning at first glance.

Got a bit of a late night wiring session done. I got the shitty tach out and then got busy hooking stuff up. All of my connections are soldered, taped, and finished with zip ties. I sure hope everything's correct and has good signal.

Ended up getting all of below connected:
Turn signals
SES
Seatbelt
4x4
Dimmer
High beam indicator
Wide band output
Fuel level
Ground
Switched power
Speed sensor

Still need:
Constant power
Install sending unit and run wires for oil pressure
Connect two buttons that control gauges

No pics tonight.

I’m in the middle of installing my gauges too. Looking forward to seeing some pics of your install.

I got the BIM/OBD reader too. Almost solely for trans temp monitoring, but having the extra stuff in there will be good too.

Everything is working like it should. I haven’t set up the gauges to display the afr, but it’s communicating. The bim 01-2 doesn’t act like the instructions say when programming, but everything is displayed that should be. I’ll try to take some pics tonight, but when I flipped the headlights on last night, it was all worth it. I got pulled over for speeding last week, so it’s nice to have a working speedometer again. The needle broke off in the factory gauges a few months ago.

I picked up a couple of JL subs yesterday, so time to get busy on the rest of the interior. I’ll make another post about plans as I narrow them down.

Decided to get frisky and knock out the body mounts and add the 1” ORD pucks. I had to drop the tank and remove my truck vault. The only other thing that slowed me down was removing the grill real quick. Overall it wasn’t too bad, and actually easier than I expected for the first half. The second half are loose and need to be swapped. I decided to sleep in today, but getting started now.

Definitely noticeable. Time to knock out the rest. Ready, set, go!

The body lift went fine, and I don’t mind the small gaps that it created on the sliders. I’ll probably need to address it at some point, but should be fine for most of the malls I visit.

I’m thinking about walking outside and doing the front suspension. I think I’ve got everything I need, including blades, cutting wheels, and the drill bits. I’ll be installing new u bolts and spring plates, so I’ll just cut those off. If the springs don’t come off easy, I’ll cut those off too.

The only thing holding me up is I need to construct some risers for jack stands. I’ve got the 4x4s, but I’m lazy. It’s starting to look like rain as well.

If I go for it, I’ll do the front upper shackle hanger, springs, and ford towers. I’ve got some ez inch’s or whatever the ord version is.

Crossover will have to wait until next weekend. The pitman arm I have is not for the TRE that I have on the ord drag link. Need to order it.

Good call. I’ve got a die grinder, but not sure that I’ve got a good bit for this project. Home Depot is just two miles away though.

Oh yeah, didn’t cut anything and no power tools. 45 minutes including grinding the head off one two rivets.

Today was a failure.

The front spring and fush install was cursed from the start. Everything came out no problem yesterday, and the oem shackle hangers didn’t fight much today. I was off to a good start and then things turned south.

First problem: Front spring eye/bushings are more narrow than the front perch. The width is off to tune of four washers(two each side of the spring).

Next problem: ORD sent me a strange front shackle combo that won’t work with my set up. The shackle bolt hole doesn’t jive with my springs or the FUSH kit. Luckily, I had another option, albeit longer shackles.

Worst problem: when I went to enlarge the frame hole for the FUSH kit, my compressor died. Looks like a piston/ring problem at first glance. It’s 12-14 years old at this point. The rest of my time to work was taken up by different failed attempts at opening the hole up. I’m not sure what i option I have other than a compressor replacement.

There were other hiccups but the springs are on minus the FUSH. Still will have to mount the shocks and ford towers.

You sure you got the springs flipped the right way? You got a narrow front hanger and rear shackle alignment issues....

Not sure this would be your issue but it could’ve just been an oversight.

Springs measure 3in at both ends and the hanger is just over 3.5. The b-52 kit I have in the garage is 3in as well. Swapping to those mounts may be my easiest and cheapest option forward. I bought the springs because they were supposed to be 52s, turns out they weren’t. I know the truck was supposed to have an a-bomb, so they could have been made special.

I’m honestly not sure what I need to do at this point.

Tonight, I was able to open up the hole for the spring hanger with a hole saw within a hole saw, using one as the pilot.

I used spring eye bushings from Diy4x for my ProComp front springs at the front spring eye and they are too narrow like yours are. I had to use these big thick washers that they sell specifically for that purpose.

Thanks @Truckman4life
That’ll be a hell of a lot easier than swapping to b52 mounts. I’ll go ahead and assemble with 4 flat washers and hunt down the kind you have.

My boss is in town today and tomorrow, so time will be limited until Thursday. He only comes once or twice a year.

Ok, shackle mounts got put on last night and I installed the ORD springs after work today. Since I had to install 6” shackles, I removed the zero rate from the springs. I cycled the suspension a little bit with out the tires on. I’m definitely not happy with the shackle angle so far. We will see once I can properly check travel. I sure wish ORD had sent the right parts. I had a $1000 dollar order that took a few weeks to ship and was missing the shackle kit, 5 packs of nuts and bolts, and something else. They sent what was short and made it right, but the wrong size shackle kit.

The springs are drilled offset, and when I moved the axle forward, the driveshaft fell apart. I figured I’d need to get it lengthened, but I don’t have to wonder now. A de-fang is most definitely in my future. I probably won’t even be able to install the tires without it.

Fender cutting and shock mounting still to come. Maybe even a pic or two. I need to run down the torque values for the shackles and springs too.
