Adventures And Build Up Of A 79' K10

Took the truck out this weekend on a local trail . It was a tight squeeze to say the least. I was forced to rub a tree to get by a rock and put a small dent in my driver door that I'll be able to pop out. My carb loaded up quite a few times, I'm guessing due to idling all day and being at 8000ft elevation.
Thinking about putting in a fuel regulator and turning it down when I'm on the trail, has anyone used one for that before?

My original plan was to swap in my 205 when I do the 700R4 but now I'm thinking a 203/205 would be best for my needs on the trail...It definitely would of been nice to have that low range in the rocks...

So after getting back from the that trail run I had realized my trans cooler has started leaking. The fan was pulling the leaking atf through the radiator and covering everything under the hood....after cleaning up the mess I swapped in another cooler I had laying around. It also explained why my trans was slipping so bad towards the end of the day. I added about 3 quarts back to it and took it for a spin and it seemed alright. I'm still convinced its on its last leg though.

I have a new 700R and 27 spline 205 that are going in but like a lot of you guys I only want to do things once. That's why I've decided to just do a 203/205 using the 203 range that's currently in the truck. I'm planning on using a NWF kit because they offer it for a 27 spline 205.

The trucks runs fine so I'm going to continue to use it until I have everything needed to swap the trans and do the doubler. In the mean time I will also be getting around to the rear shackle flip and collection material for my rear bumper build.

Nice rig, what trail were you on?

and the reason why ORD doesn't sell 10 or 27 spline kits:

The Doubler is only available in 31 or 32 spline which eliminates any weak link in the transfer case system. Very early on we experimented with 10 and 27 spline input gears in the NP205 and they simply didn't hold up. We don't want you to have to buy the kit again when you find the limits of the smaller input gears!

Something to think about.....

The trail was Deer Valley or some call it Blue Lakes to HWY 4. It takes about 4 hours to run if you take your time and stop and eat lunch along the way. In a set up smaller rig (Toyota or Jeep) its a pretty good trail. In a full size it was pretty tight.

That's a good point on the 27 spline vs 32 spline. I guess the $350 for the ORD 32 spline conversion would be a good investment and piece of mind on the trail...
Thanks for the input!

Went out for a drive today to check out some old mines in the hills near my house. A recent fire and some flash flooding turned one of the roads into a pretty fun wash. Nothing hardcore and no new parts yet. I wont be ordering anything until after Thanksgiving.

I have been looking around for fuel tank options though...How many of you guys have swapped out your saddle tanks for a rear mounted Blazer tank and if so about how far does it hang below your frame and shackles??

I ditched my saddle tanks for a K5 tank, you can look at my build thread for more info/pics.

Could run a tall skinny fuel cell in front of your tool box.

Veru cool and nice truck you got there. Excellent work it looks like as well! Definitely a fun rig to enjoy those trails and awesome scenery.

Blazer tank I hear is the best way to go when switching to a single tank. I haven't heard anyone complain about it hanging too low so i'd assume it is ok. Get a skid plate for it and you'll be good to go.

on the edge of my seat here, what happened next?

EDIT - wait, I posted this in the middle of the engine rebuild, I did not see the next page link...

EDIT AGAIN: I read through, but I am still wondering how the 383 build with those 2.02 heads compares to the previous crate engine? If your not doing more engine mods or talking about it then I am guessing it works.
