advice on a purchase

Front disks came standard on, I believe, '71 and newer 1/2 ton D44s. The '76 changed to 10 bolts from the D44 IIRC. They are both about the same strength but the '76 and earlier had the flat top knuckle which is a bonus for crossover steering. What do you mean by bumping a lot of tires off?

Sorry answered above. ^^^^^
I think the 10bolts came in late 77 and 78 and up.
My 77 still has the D44

you could just do what a lot of us have. buy a few different blazers if you can't decide. Its just money. Obama is giving it away so your check is probably in the mail already.

I say 73-75. full convertible which is bitch tits :D, solid drivetrains even

Motor: 350 or 305 it won't matter with the right gears IMO. I've had both and was plenty happy at the time.

Tranny: any will be sufficient but 400 turbo would be great for an auto. I myself HATE automatics. Personal preference is the 465 4 speed manual

Transfer case: 205 research this cause i've had so many people try to sell me a 203 cause they're uninformed ;) 203's are good and so are 208's (aluminum) but not for what i do

Axles: stock 1/2 ton work but i'm going 3/4 cause i got the wheels and axles. 1-tons would be the way to go dana 60 front/14 full floater rear

Rust areas:Think you said NE area so watch the rear tailgate area. Make sure to open that tailgate and inspect. (Mines beyond repair. took much work to fix it) rockers and front fenders. Behind the fron seats even

body lift: I put it on mine and wish i never would. Only thing it's helped me with was pulling the gas tank and clearing bigger tires (sawzall does the same thing )

think that about covers it. Of course it's all personal preference ;)

I always liked that pic, almost seems like it would be a picture in an advertisement.

It was a pretty good looking truck and thanks. That picture is 7-8 years old I think.

That body died a slow death from rust, 30 years of four wheeling (honestly, this was the biggest killer. EVERY body part was cracked, twisted, etc.) and a cutoff wheel.

I've never done it before, so here's the story from '76 until the current:

Poor truck :(

I blame CK5 :haha:

Like I said, that truck was very worn out. 200K and 30 years seemed like a pretty good life and I chose to cut it up rather than fix a ton of rust, cracks, etc.

Fox (coloradok5) cut up a much nicer and newer K5 than I did. And at least I threw the fender skins back on it

*wonder where Fox's rig ended up anyway?*

I will throw my two cents in here.

I like the 73 to 75 because of the full vert. But they will most likely come with a turbo 350 and a 203 not the best drivetrain but not the worst. In all reality if you get one of the older trucks the best thing to do is look for three trucks. The one you start with. The one you put the full vert windsheild frame and top on (usually because of rust issues so truck #2 needs to be newer) and the three quarter ton or one ton pickup you get the axles from. Try to make one of these a fuel injected truck.

So basically you end up with a full vert 3/4 ton truck with fuel injection and a 4 speed trans (sm465) and a 205 or 208

This is where one of my trucks will end up soon

wow, thats impressive. can you imagine the cost of the fuel for those 200K miles :eek1:

89.

Serpintine belt.
One piece rear seal.
Basically non-rusting bodies.
31 spine front 10 bolt vs the traditional 30 spline...pre 88, I think?
Fuel injection.

I had an 89 with a factory 465 (rare). Put 275,000 miles on it....and I'm still mad at myself for selling it. Installed 14 blt and D44 straight out of a junk yard 76 3/4 ton, and it all bolted right in!

Good luck finding one like my old one, I can't talk about it any more.
