I’m 18 had the truck 1.5 years got it in parts built it up, bent the 10B, trash the 208, rolled it /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif, put new trussed 10B in, broke F/R drivelines, swapped in the TH350/203, put in 14B, built cage, narrowed F/R /forums/images/graemlins/hack.gif, boatside, beef rear diff cover, rear disc brakes just as soon as I get the brackets made and making my x-over/hy-steer arms. Next on the list is to build my own doubler kit and on bored air. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
AND IT HAS NOT BIN ON A TRAIL YET! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

blahblahblahblahblah maybe its just me but thats what half of the posts above said.
to me age isnt a number its an attitude, for myself I am 29 and it means absolutely nothing in the wheeling world. I also own my own succesfull business but that dont mean [darn] on the trail.

I was pretty much born into this sport so obviously I stuck with it.
our club consits of ages from one 19 year old up to about mid 50s and we are a very tight nit group that understands each others wheeling styles.
one thing I do see a lot is the younger ones in our club trying to compete with others on there rigs and how hard core they can be, well its hard to compete with a bigger wallet and knowledge.

just move on your own pace and your attitude will outway your age.

I'm 149 yrs. old, have driven every single motorized vehicle on the face of the planet, broken every single piece of equipment on them, fixed them with duct tape, rubber bands, and bailing wire. I walked 782 miles one way in the snow to school, barefoot, with nothing in my lunch sack but a dead squirrel, a handful of gravel, and some 3 month old milk the thickness of cottage cheese. After I got my diploma after 28 yrs. in High School, I became a ditch digger in the artic tundra. I had to use my bare hands and was usually naked because the foreman stole my clothes to give to the Democrats. After this job I became a linoleum layer until I cut all my fingers off by accident. Now I test truck windows by punching them with my stumps for pennies a day. At night I go home to sleep in a cardboard box down in the slaughterhouse men's room for 2 hrs. when I have to get up for my second job of licking the floor clean in the lard room. But, it pays a whole dollar a shift and it's all you can eat. I've saved for 74 yrs. for my Blazer and I only get to drive it on leap year by pushing it downhill where it sits until the tow company seizes it. I then scale the barbwire fence at night and steal it back. I pay for gas by collecting the blood running from my body from the concertina wire and sell it to Red Cross. But I ain't complainin'.....

I keep hearing on this website about everyone being old and I am 17 and I have already experienced all of the problems of the 700R4, Dana 44, 10-bolt, and np208; and I have built and fabricated, fixed and broke, and have gone on numerous off-road trips. Is there something wrong with that? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Im only 16 and I have quite a bit of experience with trucks already. I put a new engine in my truck. Helped my brother pull out and put back in his transmission and t-case. I also installed my own lift, 14 bolt, 8-lug front conversion, and all the other small repairs needed. I have also been wheeling quite a bit. I am happy I have an early start, just not happy about being very very poor.

i just turned 17 on wednesday (3/24), ive had my blazer since 3/17 of last year and its been a project since i bought it...only $1000 for a 85 /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif with 350/TH350, 4" Lift, 33x12.50x15 tires, sun visor with 3 KC Daylighters...ive done all the work on it since i bought it and im not even going to go into all the work ive done to it and all thats ahead...but the being very very poor thing is a huge bummer...but i love this truck, its gone places i would have never thought about goin...oh well, time for a new engine though! /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif
keep on keepin on!

yeah I am 18, have had my 91 for 3 years(even though my parents hassled me about gas money and selling it, and I even mowed yards to pay for the gas alone) and then I finally got a real job and I am in the middle of my engine swap. I ripped out the old 350/700r4 and I am swapping in a new 2001 6.0 chevy vortec/4l80e and also rebuilt the transfer case myself. And I am doing all of that and the wiring by myself, I have fabricated several new crossmembers, one for the clocked 241 and also for the engine crossmember, and also fixing up a set of hummvee runflats, and if you really are good at wiring schematics, I suggest doing the 6.0 swap because that engine is awesome once its in there. Next on the list is 44/14 axle swap. /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

You my have 1 ton's but i have a hell of a lot less $$$ in it then you. I did some of the work on your truck too(rear bumper, tail gate, some cage work, and a little boatside) and you have done none on mine.

Andrew

I'll agree, it sgreat to get an early start, but its also hard to compete "Wallet wise"

I try to be as money concious as I can without being cheap. I'll do my best to find the best price on the best part, no just go for the cheap $hit, fo rthe sake that it costs less. Some things are unavoidable, if you want tires with tread on em, you gotta drop the cash.

If you don't have a bunch of $$$, do all the DIY mods you can, it will not only save you money, you'll gain loads of experience. Theres plent od "down and dirty" cheap mods for the K series to keep anyone at bay for quite a while.

Andrew, mine is all hand built too. I also completed the most recent axle swap alone (not recomended for amatures, or anybody without a death wish) I even did the cage install by myself.
