Alaskan family wheeler

View attachment 221797 View attachment 221805 I found this truck on CL in Seattle with 87,879 miles on it tbi 350 Dana 60 14 bolt 456. (It was a forest service truck it has no rust) When I talk to the guy he said he put in a nv4500 and he was going to put a Cummins in it. That was what I wanted to do. I had a buddy go look at it he said it was a nice truck so I bought it with out doing my research on the low first gear Chevy 1994 nv4500. In shipment to me. I stared to do my research come to find out it can be done but it's not as easy as 96 and up. I called around and no one sells a kit to convert it. The problem is I live on a island with very little resources for this kind of stuff ( the only thing I can find are Dana 60's) Is there a place I can ship it to so they can covert it? I found a place that can build me a nv4500 that comes with Dodge input 13/8 shaft Chevy output bell housing flywheel 550 hp rated clutch for 3800. or do I sell the Cummins and put in a gas motor? And keep the trans I have but then I get back to the problem no junk yards to go find a 8.1 or a ls to swap I scored the Cummins for free the guy moved off the island but the trans was blown up. The truck will see lots of road lot of snow and mud some rocks it will be driven in a wide range of temps lowes to -20. So far the build list is 8 inch front springs crossover steering psc ported steering box ORD frame plates and brace High angle 1410 front shaft move front bumper rear has ORD shackle flip 4 inch blocks for now grizzly locker 42x14.5x17 MTR'S 40 gal suburban fuel tank mounted behind the rear axle need to make a skid plate.

I'm following! I'd love to see the Cummins in there, there's gotta be someone that would be interested in buying your NV4500 off of you up there I'd think so!

If I remember correctly. It should clear the driveshaft with 8 inches or more lift. I think that's what I read when I was doing mine

Nice! I've often thought a utility bed would be cool.

As far as motor swap, I'd go with the choice that's easiest to get repair parts for given your remote location. Also if one fuel is more available/cheaper than the other.

Also you can't convert the 93-94 GM NV4500 to a Cummins input with out completely changing out the guts I just went through this on my crew cab Cummins Swap

What I ended up doing was finding a 2wd Cummins NV4500 and swapping the 32 spline GM out put shaft into it , and then swapped a 32-spline GM input into a Ford 205 as I am running a 78-79 ford 60 up front so I can have room for the 5" exhaust

It's really clean it runs good I just need more power but what doesn't need more power lol.

That would be the Cummins.

Well when you get back over this way contact me , we have a small group of square body chevy rigs that run together . Not really a club just friends who drink beer, wrench , and trade parts .

Usually we run Eureka , and a few of the other trails around wasilla

I put a 4bt in my CC, if I was going to do it again I would use a Ford HP 60. The 3.5" exhaust gets real tite between the transfer case and the frame rail.

Ok thanks for the info I'll pull one out of the pile of 60's and get it cleaned up.

That sounds good to me thanks for the invite. Thinking of a short trip in the spring still not sure when the truck is going there need to get it finished need a trans for the Cummins swap the motor is almost back together.

Sold the cummins to a friend he need it for his daily driver. I was trying to decide if I want to go big block or small block I found a big block 502 on cl so big block it is if I can make the deal happen from 3000 miles a way lol
