All Metal Rust Repair/Rebuild with 90+Pics.......

Well, that went pretty good. It's going to take a little while to get the pics uploaded. But when I was finished, I took a couple of more pics of the new a/c panel and just finished uploading them. They are baseline shots from the left that show reflection very well from rolled edge to rolled edge. From the looks of it, it appears that there is almost nothing to be done to the bottom 3/4's of the panel (first pic). The second pic shows that there definitely needs to be some (but not a bunch) glazing putty used to get the top nice and straight:thinking:.

Somewhere around this point, I realized that I forgot to take pic's of the backside of the plate and in the cavity.......but it was primed and painted with same Rutsoleum black.

16 Gauge, just like the a/c delete panel..........I originally had planned to weld this piece in flush, much like the other one. I did not realize though, was how many different reinforcements come together in that area. One, completely around the circumference of the hole. The other problem I had, was that the wall surrounding the hole was not flat. By the time the panel would be fitted flush, it would be so wavy that it would be very hard to dress nicely, and would require a good amount of filler to be even close to straight........

This plate was also seem-sealed around the circumference of the hole, the edges will be sealed before paint. The welds will be covered by the loom for the 10 gauge amp wire before it disappears in the fender and re-appears under the battery tray..........

All done here with the welder and grinders...............I am going to wait to primer this area until I get the winshield frame and cowl stipped. There are a few issues with the windshield frame as well. I will continue to updating as progress happens......:wink1:

Yes, please keep them coming. I have some windshield issues as well and would like to see someone else tackle theirs first.

Those magnets holding the piece of metal in where you could not get a clamp was pretty clever – you must come from smart family. :pimp:

Thanks. The magnets I have come to love! Those, and the $2 plastic (suction cup) dent puller, definitely made this job much easier......And I guess I get it from my dad, he has been turning wrenches all of his life and has probably forgotten more about things with four wheels than I will ever know:bow:.

That Jeep you are sneaking into the pics is the last straw!! :)

Well, I have caught the race car bug and I believe the time has come for the Blazer/Jimmy to go. So here is my question, what's it worth? You can see pretty much everything in the link. It comes as a complete roller minus hood, bumpers, and top. I have the original complete Jimmy front end that was removed in one piece and is plug & play. It has 1/2 ton running gear on it, also comes with 3/4 ton running gear (12 bolt rear/44 front). Comes with 205 trasfer case and rebuilt TH350. Has recovered scroll insert front seats with aevery nice matching original back seat and nice original console. Also has roll bar. Comes with 38/14.4 STX's on aluminum slots and has new body mounts installed. I have the original drivers door in very good shape and a passenger door that is very rough, but GM. I picked it up so that I could do proper fitment of the metal work on that side. I also have a new Goodmark truck door that I could not get to fit. It looks perfect, but just does not work. The GM fits great. I put ALOT of time and effrot into this truck. All metal work was done with the thought of me keeping this truck forever, not for resale. I have hundereds of pics of the repairs as I made them. There is nothing to hide. If it is primer in the pictures, it is ALL METAL underneath. There has been 0 filler used in all repairs. This tub still has a little left to make perfect, but all of the hard/structural work is done and will make someone either a very nice truck to continue building, or a very nice tub to complete your project truck. The last thing that I have done is to clear the dash. Nothing was cut and all pieces/wirining remain in tact. All of the brake/fuel lines were removed complete and are also included. I have owned this truck for 11 years and it has been inside the entire time. It was stored inside when I found it and had been there the entire time. It still retains the 1978 licsense plate it wore when retired. I have been out if the loop for a while, and am just curious as to what the hive thinks it might be worth. Any/all feedback will be greatly appreciated. I will be making the listing in the next few days and it will include pics of all things mentioned above more pics.

Yes, I know, this is a very sad day for me and I have wrestled very hard with this decision. But, It has to be this way.......

cant you just build it as a tow rig for your race car??? Can you please not give up on it??? This is just sad...really sad.

Unfortunatly, body work seems to be the most under appreciated. A rolling tub similar to that can be had for a couple grand pretty easily.

That would be the idea situation! But I have 5 vehicles and only a two car gareage:(. But you are right, it is a sad thing.............sometimes, when it come to hobbies, hard choices have to be made..........(unless I hit the lottery.........)

I learned alot from this truck. Lots of hours, blood, sweat, and very, very, bad words have been personally poured into this truck. That being said, I also uderstand that it is what is....I am also thinking of selling my driver (and my original) '72 K/5 that I paid $50 for 13 years ago (and have driven ever since). I am keeping the motor as it the only 350 I have ever rebuilt (that will be going into a drag car). It will be complete otherwise. It is GONE! Rust has taken this one almost to it's grave. I think the paint is the only thing holding this truck together! It does have some very nice interior pieces though. I start it up once a month and take it for a country cruise the keep everything lubed. I am thinking along the lines of $3,500-$4,000 for everything. I feel if I get rid of ANY of it, it ALL has to go. I will miss it/them too much.

This is the K/5 a month after I bought it 13 years ago. I spent a weekend with lots of bondo, some new carpet, yellow paint, And rebuilt drivetrain. I will post a current pic as soon as I take one......

As I sit here, I realize even more that this is going to tougher than I thought...:doah:

I'm fairly certain you can recover your $50 if you sell that one too. :)

All I can say is WOW! You did and amazing job and have a really nice truck. Your attention to detail is very motivating.
