We were watching a big bracket race this summer my cousins were in, and the junior dragsters came on, I told my 7 year old son to see if he seemed interested that kids were racing, and the first thing he said when they took off...
We had the precursor to junior dragster. Dad converted 1/4 midgets into drag cars with 250cc Yamaha 2 stroke engines. 3 gears to get to the 1/8th mile. I ran it once to the 1/4. Was really sketchy. But we had fun.
I watched a full alcohol 5hp Briggs and Stratton carry a full grown fat dude, tires smoking sideways down an entire city block on a go cart once though....
John Force “officially “ retired.
In his younger days he made comments of quitting when the car killed him. Now he admits he doesn’t want to go through that crash possibility again. He is still in a doctors care for ongoing recovery from the last crash. He’s more focused on grandkids now becoming the next generation of Force drivers.
He’s had an untouchable career, only out ranked in popularity by Garlits.
I saw that, he made a short vid. Said he always said they would have to "drag him out of the seat", and then he said, "I was dragged out of the seat in Richmond".
Rain out @ Pomona, so qualifying is decided by points, Kalitta ends up #1 qualifier, enough for him to win the championship. Good to see the Michigan team win it again. I got to go through the Kalitta race shop in Ypsilanti years ago. Pretty amazing sights.
