All things Drag Racing.

And thats how they used to have 64 car fields in the 60’s and 70’s!

Race week is a good time, even if you are there only watch the races for one night.

No heavy hitters like Tom Bailey, Alex Taylor, Steve Morris or the Cleeter crew this year. I suspect the carnage from Sick Summer killed Cleetus and crew coming out. It was ironic Cleetus’ mullet was on the official race week shirt.

Though I got to say without the big time folks there the atmosphere was way more grass roots than ever. Just a bunch of nobodies having fun drag racing and road tripping.

Track prep looked perfect as everyone seemed to be hooked up pretty well short of one little red ‘65 C10 that got squirrely out of the hole and narrowly missed the wall.

No real carnage on the track though we did see a couple barf right in the burnout box, but cleanup was quick.

Quickest we saw was deep 8 second times from a couple guys but nothing sub 8 seconds which kinda bummed me out but it was still good. The air was pretty humid when we got up there but once the sun got behind the Hogback the temps came down and guys we going a little faster. All were struggling with the thin air. Nobody was quicker than at Kearny the day before for obvious reasons.

Onto some eye candy. 11 second lifted K10 with a twin turbski LS. Bad ass mofo. No wheelhop. Just hook and book. I suspect he was using the twin stick 205 and chrome moly shafts in the front ten bolt to the limit.

It’s the first time I’ve seen the LMC bumper with fog light holes get used in a cool way. Turbski intakes!

Only thrash we saw was this couple halfway through changing a head gasket on the LS. 4A235091-23B9-4C51-A202-12FCDECB65FE.jpeg

I lost count of how many w-body Impalas I thrashed as rental cars when I was on the road but this one was different. EE52F932-CDBE-4F50-84FC-F50991430DFD.jpeg

Yep it’s rwd and LS swapped with a single snail on it.

Then we stumbled on probably the coolest Ford on the property. A fox body wagon with a turbo’d 300” straight 6. Complete with the bench seat still in it. Effing rad. 20049FC2-9F14-4C1C-A4EC-CC10064FAC25.jpeg

Missing out on sunset runs like this is going to suck next year.
