All things Drag Racing.

I had buddy w a 69-Z28 w headers and ran a 14.02 in 1973.
My 66Chevelle w a fresh .030 327/275 4spd w headers and aluminum intake ran a best of 14.18. My Vette w a 327/300 ran a best of 14.00/99 when I got it. I put a comp hydraulic 280 and used a 780 Holley to get that, so yeah memory recollection was better than actual numbers.

Working on a cam and converter for the burb right now. Getting the heads ported and bumping the compression a tad at the same time.
Then it's off to a chassis dyno.

Next summer I'll take it over for a test n tune night at Cordova dragway and see if I can get it below the 15 mark :waytogo:

Lol. It still may end up in my cutlass:waytogo:.
I have a gen VI BB Chevy on a stand waiting for me to decide it's fate.

I went through point pleasant a couple months ago.

From the NHRA Pacific Division fb page...

Huge announcement from the NHRA Stage at Performance Racing Industry! After an outpouring of support from the racing community in the Phoenix area with a message of wanting to see NHRA championship drag racing remain at the longtime facility, the Gila River Indian Community was proactive in its efforts to make it happen, reimagining racing at Firebird Motorsports Park!

With considerable support from racers and fans also helping drag racing return to the historic venue, the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series is back in Phoenix for the 2024 campaign as the third race of the upcoming season.

“Our fans have packed the stands in recent years and deserve to have nitro back in the desert,” Firebird Motorsports Park Track Manager Casey Buckman said. “We are beyond excited to continue our partnership with NHRA in 2024 to host the Arizona Nationals and keep these signature events alive at our facility for years to come.”

“It’s with tremendous excitement that we announce the NHRA’s return to Phoenix and Firebird Motorsports Park in 2024,” NHRA President Glen Cromwell said. “Our fans have packed that facility for nearly 40 years and it was truly incredible to see the fans’ outpouring of support to help continue racing at the historic track. We’re thrilled to work with the Gila River Indian Community, and all of our race teams, fans and partners look forward to a terrific event at Firebird Motorsports Park in 2024.”

They actually had a resolution for Firebird a few months ago. NHRA recognizing it is good though, hopefully more long term

Don Schumacher passed…
Ill always remember the first time I saw the Wonderwagon at US131 dragway.
In the mid 70’s he focused on building up his Schumacher electric co. (Think battery chargers) and came back to racing in the 90’s with a huge corporate, multi team approach and was very successful, especially w his son Tony driving the Army TF dragster, and Alan Johnson tuning, they won several championships and US national titles as well (I think 8 of them). A legend of the sport!
