He didn't buy it, he worked out a deal with the current owner to maintain the track and turn it profitable while the owner serves his time. He has a whole video on it covering all the details.

The downside is that he canceled Sick in the Desert (would have been based out of my home track) and another one to concentrate on the track. I understand he is sinking a lot of money into the track and needs to turn a profit, but it's still a bummer.

The whole history of that track is crazy, the guy that owns it bought enough grandstands to host the biggest NHRA events in the country. They're just sitting in piles around on the property, he had big dreams but not a good plan.
