Allis-Chalmers tractor purchase. Now, The Old Tractor thread. Post yours.

Jeff, how does one go about seeing the Keller collection? I'd have a field day...

I don't have their number, but they open the doors by appointment. They don't charge admission, but have a place to drop a donation that they give to local charities.

It is part of a very large private collection (Keller Collection in WI). The collection is mostly John Deere and lowest serial number he can get. He has many serial number 1 tractors and experimental tractors.

Ah, ok. I've heard of Kellers. Didn't realize there was anything but John Deere stuff. Would love to see it someday.

Forgot about this thread, my recent tractor purchase sitting next to mom and dads 8070’s. Kinda neat my 5488 and his 8070 are both 1984’s, biggest of the last series of each brand, and both front wheel assist.

You bought a 5488? Nice. Sadly our last 5488 has made way to another magnum.
Made me a little sad, but damn do the newer Magnums shift so much nicer.

I would love a magnum but the 88 series are the best looking tractor ever, and this one I took a gamble and bought broke. A $33 spring later and I jumped the value about $9000

Blasphemy!
The 88s don't hold a candle stick to a 66!
Yes, I like the 66 over the 86, I'm just kinda a un- cabbed kinda guy.

I do love the 66’s as well! Something about having AC with the weather we’ve had most of the summer makes it worth it to me

HUH..

I tell about that Yahnmar tractor ,and what do I see listed on CL today ?...yup...guess he's going to try selling it again!..
I know the tractor, and the ad's photos are from the owners yard--I haven't seen him in 10 years probably, pretty weird coincidence!..
He probably wouldn't remember me if I went there,he was a friend of a friend and we didn't hang around together hardly at all..
If I had 8K I wouldn't mind owning that loader!..

My brother and I purchased this little tractor at the beginning of the year. It's a cheaper FarmPro 160 (or I guess some call it their 2430). But it's a 2006 that only had 76 hours on it and we paid $2500 for it :pimp:. Not the biggest or nicest tractor, but it works great for us to be able to move some dirt quicker than a shovel and wheelbarrow, haha. I plan on getting a mower attachment and a box blade for the back 3 point to keep my property looking fresh and so clean clean, haha

I'm wanting to make a post hole digger attachment for one of my garden tractors..I have a few old Peerless transaxles, and various other parts hanging around, and the hardest part would be making an auger,or the most costly thing to buy..
I see a 6" used auger on CL for $45 not that far away..

I know Harbor Freight has a hand held 2 stroke unit with a 6" auger on sale for $169 ,but I'm not really in good enough shape to risk using one of those one man units, and chances are it would sit un-used a long time after my first project is done and the thing will have carb issues--I read the recoil starters are all plastic & junk too,I'd almost prefer an electric one,I was thinking of using a starter motor or winch to power one ,no hassles with starting or gas & oil mix,etc that way..

I'd like to put a small addition on my garage and using concrete & poles would be the simplest way to make a "foundation"..also have some fencing I picked up 2+ years ago ,used, that I'd like to get put up before it goes to seed sitting outside piled up...I installed 2 sections when I got them, but after using a manual post hole digger shovel,I was ready for the ICU after the first hole..was many roots and rocks where I had to dig,but behind my garage should be just dirt..

I know tractor shows all look alike.

But that sure looks like Old Threshers. The Roadroller and the Reeves aren't common machines. Though I guess they might travel around.

Yes, from Old Threshers 2011.

Any chance you knew my great uncle Maynard "Pete" Petersen? He was at one point the president of the Northern Illinois Steam Power Club, and director-at-large of the National Threshers Association.

He's been dead 6 or 7 years now, and was in his 90's when he died...

My FIL's working tractors, a couple of old-ish Deeres. In the foreground in the machine shed pic you can see parts of an old Avery gasser and a Deere B.

The in-laws' neighbor passed away last year and his kids sold the farm. They asked my FIL if he wanted a tractor sitting in one of the sheds. It was a Farmall C which had been sitting for ages. We cleared the mud dauber nests out of the stack, put fresh gas and a new battery in it, aired the tires, and it fired right up and he drove it home.

I didn't know him.

Lots of new members since I was last active.

Anyone in MN attending the nowthen, or almelund threshing shows? I'll be pulling at now then for sure. Maybe Almelund too.
