Allis-Chalmers tractor purchase. Now, The Old Tractor thread. Post yours.

this being that hard to get make me thing the cylinder walls aren't straight. That would suck with all the effort it took to get here.

I don't think so. I read that rebuilders pull them out with a winch of various kinds. Mount the cylinder and winch the shaft out. I was told, if it comes out easy, the piston seals are junk. So I think mine are good.

been so long I forgot the original reason for repair piston seal at cap ? Going to replace the pistons seals ?

Just like any piston in a cylinder, it's got a place it always travels so the end where it rarely goes is going to be tighter.

Attempted to hang the cylinder to pull it apart. No dice.

Laid it on a pallet and hooked one end to my 9500 pound forklift. Other end is chained to the skid steer. Drug the forklift backwards, sliding the tires. Blocked the tires. It rolled the 4x4s over as the forklift slid onto them.:yikes:

There are 2 steel posts full of concrete in front of the shop. I have never hooked anything to them, because I do not know if they have footings. So I wrapped a chain around both, doubling it. Chained up the skid steer. And pulled. It started lifting the rear wheels. Then pop. It was almost out. Looked it over and everything seemed to be OK. So I pulled one more time. Success.

I ordered a 2-7/8" impact socket. I did not want to try the thin axle nut socket. Torque is suposed to be 450 foot pounds. It is a good thing I kept that 1" drive air wrench.
