I just finished rebuilding my Dana 60. I got the new inner and outer bearings, races and seal in. Spanner nuts are torqued to spec, but I noticed a gap between the spindle and inside edge of the hub. These are the lugnut 4x4 brake brackets but I don't recall the stock brackets being much thicker.

Here is a pic taken between slots in the rotor. I just finished taking the whole hub off on one side and checking to make sure it's all the way on and it's good. Just looks suspicious.

I'll admit, I'm lost, and I've had my D60 apart enough to assemble it blindfolded. Not sure what I'm looking at or where the gap is.

There should be a gap between the spindle and hub, can't spin without one.
There shouldn't be a gap between the spindle and knuckle though.

The shiny part you see in the pic is the machined spindle surface that the hub seal sits on. I've checked the seal and it is all the way on that surface, but I'm wondering why there is a noticeable gap now when there wasn't before. It if was there prior to disassembly I would assume there would be some corrosion.

Either a bearing is not right, bur in spindle not letting bearing slide on, inner race not all the way in, ummm...

I'd start by putting everything on individually

That guys brake brackets have it assembled as knuckle, spindle, then brake bracket? If so that means the spindle isn't piloted to the knuckle as designed and the spindle studs bear the weight of the truck.
Is the spindle even seated in the knuckle or is the brake bracket cut too small so it can't fit all the way through?

Something is definitely wrong but that's not a very good picture lol.

Another not so great pic but you can see some of the assembly. Knuckle, spindle, bracket.

I tried reassembling the other side this afternoon. I think it's the inner bearing being tight. It takes some maneuvering to get the hub assembly on but once it goes it goes easily, but only goes as far as stated earlier.

The spindle appears fully seated in those pics. If you run a straight edge over the hub opening your stub shaft should be pretty close to flush with the hub face. That would tell you if your races are seated.

Just looking at it this morning, they look fairly close to the edge of the hub. I'll try to get a pic this evening.

No worries. I have the same setup we put together yesterday. You can see the spindle too. You might be ok. Just check your work.

Oh yeah, you have more spindle showing than mine. There's maybe only 1/8" spindle showing in mine.

The brake brackets are 3/8" plate. I'm guessing that this "gap" is always there but just not seen with the stock brackets.

Wish more time was spent coming up with brackets to convert these trucks to newer multi piston calipers. Seems ALL the companies just follow suit and make the easy stuff.

Where is my rear disc conversion with parking brake? Without using the crappy old calipers.
Where is my front caliper mount and discs to use the dual piston newer calipers?

Why isn't somebody stepping up?

I know being able to swap parts from another chevy, or parts that are readily available in the junkyard is nice, but some of us wouldn't mind spending GOOD money to upgrade and use newer stuff.

Ruffstuff took my suggestion on those exact parts but I didn't say which calipers or brackets I'd like to use. But a drum in hat e brake would be nice.

There is a company that makes a kit to put the big Dodge AAM 14.xx" brakes on a king pin D60, requires 17"+ wheels. I'll try to find the link.
