And it continues build thread. Dead.. sent to the scrapyard

My brother drove his dmax out there. Got around just fine but I don't know about climbing test hill. With the right tire pressure maybe, his tires were 285s I think. You could definitely tell it wanted to sink in more than we were used to, but not stopped up hills and stop spinning 'em before you dig in and he was fine.

ughhh super heavy stock truck in the dunes = bad ju ju

Nah thats not true. You look at some of the pics and vids i put up from silver and there are tons of diesels that do fine up there. The key to not getting stuck in sand is about 10-12 psi in the tires and keep momentum going when going up hills or any incline. Sure they whey alot but the power of the motors keeps them going fine. My buddies ext cab long box cummins climbs test hill no problem, and diesels rock it on the drag strips because they are so heavy and torqy they instantly grab and have less tire spin.

Thats cool we have had to drive tow rigs out onto our sand a couple times.

You have to super careful where you go. Can't just roam free and usually plan out a route to get em through.

Spent most of a day pulling a guy out that went in with a stock cummins, nice truck, he got down in a bowl and that was it. Was lucky we came along. spent most of the day getting him out of the rest of the dunes.

The dmax does just fine on test!

I don't think I want to beat on her though. I just put the new injectors in and only have about 1000miles on it. Want to make sure she last another year, or atleast till I can trade her for another dmax.

and I have 285's. I ran at 11psi and didn't have to back up once. Just give it more skinny pedal and watch my boost gauge hit 30psi :)

Fun with no brakes. And wow 4:1 is awesome. Also this transmission hooks. Makes me realize how bad my old one was!

Good deal jess! Lookin good. You gonna put a grill on it? I like what eric did on horton

Go do some donuts in it, it will remind you why you have the truck

I worked for me :haha:

I didn't do donuts, but I did break it loose making sure that I did a good job on the orb of traction. Plus I don't have front shocks, and need to do some more fender trimming.

Trailer progress. Got all the unneeded supports cut off and ground down. Almost done with the front part of the frame. Outside deck will be 92" wide, and inside fenders will be 72". I will be keeping it that narrow because my rig 81" wide and I want both tires to go over the fenders.

Hey Jess, the truck is looking awesome :waytogo:, you were my inspiration to chop the frame on my K30, which is headed in a very similar direction as yours :D.

On the trailer, progress looks good, are you concerned with the axles at all ? I'm just wondering, with them being 3500's, once you factor in the weight of the sprung weight of the trailer I would guess your deck capacity would end up being in the 5k range. Any clue what your truck weighs? I'm just curious because I recently got ahold of a 7k utility trailer of similar size and am debating on keeping it to haul my truck or selling/trading toward a 10 or 12k.

Thanks! :thumb:

Yah I'm shooting to be at around 1800-1900 for this trailer. My dads 16 foot car trailer we built weights 17XX. I have hauled My rig when it was full bodied no problem. It handles his k5 quite nicely. I don't have any clue what my rig weighs but I will find that out after I am done. I could always sell the 3500's and upgrade to a pair of 5k's. For the trips I have planned it should be alright. I think it should be fine as long as I do the preventative maintenance needed before hand, because it will be close to or just a bit over the weight rating. For a long trip to moab, I would want a gooseneck, or a 10K trailer.

If you look back a page or two, the only reason I went this way was it was cheap, and it was an eyesore on my dads property. All the steel so far has been free. The only thing I will need to buy is some angle to hold the wood in. I am in the process of buying a house, and have all my extra funds tied up in that. This will do for a year or two, then I'll sell it on craigslist for 1k. I mean hell, you can't get a "car trailer" for less than a grand with braking axles, no matter what it looks like or the width.

good call Jess on the weight factor...the trip to Moab was the big reason I went to a 12K trailer...my 7K trailer would have been screaming with my tank on it.

Trailer main frame and braces done. Just need to pick up 1.5" square tube for the drive over fenders.

I lopped off a little of the frame. So I have 18' of deck now :)

Got new calipers put on the 60 today. I need someone to help me bleed the brakes now, as I have absolutely no pedal now. I need to add fuel treatment, and a fresh tank of premium. I'm almost out of fuel, and my motor started pinging a little. Still need to fix all the little leaks. Gonna right stuff the crap out of the valve covers, and trans dipstick. I also need to adjust my tripple stick shifters on the 205.
