another chevy for me.. not a truck!

Sounds like who put the motor together did not set it up right. Nice car thought, what happened to the 327?

I have a freshly black powdercoated set of 15x8 rally's off my 72 vette that would look great on there :)

Got my custom CCW's for it and now have no room for the rallyes!

the 327 is at my buddies shop. going to get Beefed up a bit.

I just want to change the gears. I dont plan on taking this thing over 65-70.

i was thinking 4.10s?

With a overdrive 4.10 would be alright. With stockish size tires and th400 you would want a better highway gear. You'll run out of engine quick with that high a gear. It's good for the quarter but would suck everywhere but city driving. I'd go more 3.42. If not running highway much then 4.10 will go ok but that's what I run with my 35s and on 27 inch car tires I'd be pushing 3500 rpm on the highway. Too much for my liking. Mine had 3.09 and powerglide with 60 series tires and was a good highway gearing witch is mostly what I was doing.
12 bolt car had thinner carrier and gears. 0.12 inch I believe. Truck had smaller pinion bearing and obvious 6 lug pattern except 2 wheel drive.why they made the truck have a weaker pinion bearing who knows. Buy the car 12 bolt r and p and you'll be good.

i believe there is a truck 12 bolt, and also a car 12 bolt. Someone else should chime in to tell you how to tell the difference.

Turning the distributor clockwise would retard the timing. Those are TBI heads. 87-95. Not bad heads for torque but loose wind after 4500rpm. I think k85octane had a motor built with those heads and a good cam and made like a little over 400ft.lbs of torque and a little over 300hp.

How awesome would it be if I kept valuable information like that somewhere :doah: I can't even find where I posted that :doah::doah: Was on a 400sb, but a well warmed over 350 could see that easy. :waytogo:

That's a nice Impala, except for the wheels. A set of 15's would REALLY help it out! What's the current gear ratio? Those heavy cars have a hard time spinning tires unless there's a lot more than a mild small block under the hood, unless you nail it in reverse, lol.

I've got a '69 and a '70 myself.
