Anyone ever been crab fishing?

yep...crabbin'

My uncle crabs for a living in alaska....he was a troller, but hes gettin older and wants to stay closer to home these days...

Depends what kind of crabin your talking about. Up in alaska its one of the deadliest jobs in the world. very good pay, I've heard of people making around 30,000-50,000 in less then a week(the season), but its up in very nasty waters(Bering sea) and deaths are quite common. Around seattle through Bellingham Its mainly the natives who run the show, dont know about how much they make.

I work with a guy here who grew up crabbing the bering straight with his old man. Scariest thing he's ever done, and we just got back from afghanistan!
I love crabbin'. my buddies and I go to coronet bay by deception pass and throw crab rings in about 2 hours before sunset. We usually get 30-40 crabs a day with 4-8 keeper dungeness and a dozen keeper reds. The dungeness crab limit here is 6 1/4 inches. The rest are 5 inchers.

Scuse me for my lack of knowledge, but why is the Bering Sea so dangerous?

Discovery Channel's "World's Most Dangerous Jobs"... Crab fishing was ranked number 1. Then they did a "World's Most Dangerous Jobs 2", with a land mine sweeper being ranked number 1. They played reruns for months, but haven't seen them on for a while now.

remember steve if you get crabs, there hard to get rid of, you got to scrub them.

I had read an artical in reader digest about a journalist that joind a crab expadition. its a cool job i would like to do it one day if i dident have the wife and new son.

One day I will go in a crab expedition. If your wife and son will let you, you can come along. LOL

LOL a plane ticket probably would be cheaper depending on gas/hotels/food while you are driving.
Where is a really good place for crabbing?

Unless you have spent time on the ocean and know you dont get seasick or can handle it if you do. I wouldn't recomend crabbing on the Bearing Sea. Triyng to work while deathly ill and scared S***less is a good way to die. You prolly wouldn't even get hired unless you can prove have you experience working at sea in small vessels in some of the nastiest weather on earth.
Might be better to stick to thorwing crab rings off piers.:D

LOL I haven't ever gotten sea sick, but the only boats I have been on are ferries, and SMALL fishing boats (12+ feet or so) so I wouldn't really know...
Im hungry for crab now...

Heres me last year with a not-quite-legal dungeoness. We caught a couple of HUGE red crabs that day. This is off the public pier in Pacifica, CA. Damn sea lion was hanging around all day. He just follows your rope down to your trap and chows on your bait. My buddy and I were using chicken legs, that lion would snap the bones right in half no problem. When you see him dive on your line, you better start hauling!

booyah!

Went Crab fishing (crabbing :haha: ) with a hoop trap in the harbour. Used chicken and prawn scraps for bait. First time we got a small red rock crab. Around 4" across-too small. The next time we checked there was 2...but those were too small again.

So I never got to eat any, but I experienced crabbing

never been crab fishin but i did have to go "crap" fishin the other day when my 3 1/2 yr old over flowed the toilet with too much TP, had to clean it up.... :haha: :haha: :haha: :p: :p: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: just kiddin.
