heres the set up 85 k5 blazer d60 front 38 tsls with crossover steering... my steering sucks and always has since i did the 1ton swap and crossover. i tried everything. the king pins are fine. new power steering pump, couple different gear boxes.

i dont really have bad bump steer but its there. if i hit a hard bump the front end wobbles for a few seconds. tires are ballanced. the steering is weak. squeels and is really hard to turn at a stop or in gravel. even going like 1-2 mph it sucks. so ive given up it just doesnt feel safe to me.

now before i hear its the tire size... i used to have the same set up on the 10 bolts and could turn the wheel with 1 finger at a complete stop on asphault

the truck is pretty much retired from offroad and is more a mall cruiser weekend, snow flood kinda truck.

anyone run a d60 with the steering block? i was wondering if its better or am i going to get the same crappy steering as im getting now and just live with it? id hate to go hydro assist for a street truck.

heres a few pictures. or if you see anything obviously wrong with it let me know. also the tie rod and tie rod ends have been replaced since these pics.

i figure it shouldnt cost me anything i can sell off my crossover stuff

If you decide to change over I have the 3" block and a new stock style draglink(superlift 2" drop)+ cash. Keep me in mind.

dont bother with all that force youll shear the studs they come with that go into the kingpin i sheared mine your setup is great just need hyd assist unfortunatley my friend... its an easy thing to build though .. so why not?

I'm running an 8" lift w/ 42's I have a drop pitman and the 3" steering block w/o crossover steering. I also have a d60 w/ a detroit locker.

My steering is horrible when I did the axle swap you did is when it went to $hit. I was running the same 38" tire 10 bolt combo before and it worked fine.

I was blaming the locker since it was the only thing different than the previous set up I was running, and was in the market for crossover before I read this thread.

Are you running a locker up front? or a 2wd steering box?

Mine has the death wobble along w/ the most annoying part it hardly turns when I turn the wheel in 4wd.

Alright enough of the crying maybe between the two of us we can get are rigs back on the trail where they belong. Mine wheels bad ass as long as I dont have to turn :-)

Question...are the nuts on the steering arm backwards ?.. mine are cone shaped and fit in the taper at the top of the four holes. Im getting ready to do my crossover, who makes what you have in the pics, i think i have that arm but have skys drag and pitman... i have the stock steering now with the 3in superlift block, and it sucks ... hopefully someone helps here, alot have crossover and most suggest it... also i had the death wobble bit and put washers in top of the king pin spring and it worked..no more death wobble..my kingpins on one side are hammered..changed em and perfect..

First, throw the steering block idea out of the window, it is unsafe because there is too much force and you will shear the studs. Ask me how I know....
Crossover is far superior in every way.

I think you need a steering pump.

You say the king pins are fine, but are they really? Have you taken them apart and checked the bushings?

Is it locked? If it is, you need hydro assist, or unlock your hubs when your not in 4WD.

no locker. open front and back.... my death wobble just started after taking it offroading for the first time but only if you slam a hard bump and only lasts 2 seconds. your sounds worse off then mine. mine is tolerable just not perfect. yeah im running a 2wd box. out of a 91 1ton... i adjusted that little knob on the top of it and got rid of alot of bump steer.

i thought so too about the nuts being on backwards but the top of the arm is like flat so i put them on that way  i got all my stuff from shakerbuilt.com

ive tried a few differnt pumps and even went and bought a new one with no luck. yeah i tore apart the whole axles when i got them and the king pins were like brand new and the bushings were fine. no locker and the hubs do stay unlocked

maybe i will go this way then anyone running hydro assist that can say it helps out? i should have just left the 10bolts under there lol. i spent all this money on these axles and dont even wheel it anymore

Is that one of those spring eliminating steering arms or do you keep the kingpin spring on the right side? Is the depth for the spring correct or does it require shimming?
