Anyone running bigger rims?

Every time I see a thread about someone wanting to do tacky modifications to their trucks I can rest easy knowing the probability of me running into them on the street is rare. Then I see this post. I'm in Edmond working once a week usually. Damn.

Well hope I see you around bud! I have an idea, maybe I'll paint my truck orange and put 01 on the door and a rebel flag on the roof, will that fit your guys taste a little better?

That crew can is pretty slick, the wheel size is just about right for the tires it's running, and my truck will hardly ever see off-road unless I get my rzr stuck and need to pull it out, but it will mostly just pull my trailer with my bikes and rzr on it.

I like orange, but the rest of it wouldnt do anything for me. I'm in an older white regular cab Dodge pulling a kubota trackhoe. Stop and say hello if you ever see me around.

The facts are stated. Newer wheels dont look right on older trucks. My DD is on 18's and 33's, so I'm not one of the old "16's are big enough" guys who doesnt like the new trends.

The reason people are hating on it so hard, is because most of the people here like the older generation of vehicles and what they entitled.

Good old inefficient brick aerodynamic vehicles.

Even me being 22, I have been around them my whole life, and I dig the old school looks of them. It's just what 99% of people on this site like.

Do what you want with wheels, we made dog on you about it, but in the end it is yours and your money to do what you want with it.

And it is just wheels, it only takes a few lug nuts to swap them out when you come to your senses:whistle: :thumb:

What ever you do.

Rockstars are ****ing full reTarD. When they say don't go full retard. They are actually saying don't get rockstars.

I have 24s on my daily driver. I mainly don't give a **** thought.

If the world was coming to an end and I owned a square body again. I'd rail 20s on a set of 40s. I strongly dislike the pudgy marshmallow tire look of small rims and large tires though.

That is all.

Been on CK5 for a whole week, and already making a great impression.....

One thing you'll learn about this place is that if you ask for opinions, you will get them (even if you don't like the answers). There are plenty of other sites that will praise you for every idea you have, but this isn't one of them.

When you're ready to build a real & functional truck (and not a clown wagon) this site will have the information you need.

Personally I like that copper crew cab. The wheel proportions look good.

There are certain bigger wheels that look nice on older chevys. Find a wheel you like and use it.

I'm ok with the wheel to tire ratio on that copper truck. Although I think the wheels and everything else about the truck is clown shoes. Also, I hate probably every short bed crew cab 73-87 on the planet.

Here's an old of mine. I did just cuz I could.

Back when I was at the lake every weekend it served its purpose with the trailers in and out.

How can I see pictures on here? It says I don't have permissions.

Need to be a paying member. Pony up the $25 for a year. It's worth it for all the free tech help alone.

My opinion. I'm w/ most of the others, wheel diameter shouldn't be more than half the tire diameter. 17s are the biggest I would do on 35s.

From a subjective standpoint, I don't like the skinny tire look. Skinny rubber wrapped around a big diameter wheel w/ skinny spokes is a double no no for me. They look too much like bicycle wheels, and imho, they look stupid under a full size truck. They scream mall queen.

From a practical standpoint, the skinny tire look sucks for on road as well as off road. On road, they make the ride much harsher because there isn't as much sidewall flex to absorb road irregularities. Of road, it doesn't put enough rubber between the wheel and obstacles to protect the wheel, nor does it have enough sidewall to let the tire spread out over obstacles for better traction/ flotation. There's a reason competition rigs don't use them.

And from a cheap bastage stand point, the big rims and their respective skinny tires tend to be much more expensive. I can think of a lot of things to spend the extra $$ instead of a wheel and tire combo that does not contribute to the performance of the truck.

38s on 18s I think looks fine. Certaine 20s look fine on 38s but most bigger wheels I simply don't like. It sounds like the truck is more about looks and being cool than function. Bigger rims can weigh a lot more. If you are on stock axles braking can be diminished greatly.

I don't like any big rim you can see through to the tiny stock brakes. Put big enough brakes on it and I like big rims .

The other problem I have with most 18s and or 20s is they have more backspacing than a typical 15 or 17. That sucks the rim under the truck and that looks ghey. Put wheel spacers on to get it back out again and the big rim looks better IMO.

Lets see pics of the truck

I'm a big fan of these.

Ditch the body lift, find a set of rally's and an OEM grille, and that would be a okay looking rig.

Martin

I think I'll keep the grill and body lift, if I don't keep the body lift I will have to cut fenders to fit 38s
