I was wondering if anyone is using a Klune-V in there truck? Or if anybody knows who is using one? I was thinking of using one in the Jimmy instead of a doubler since it will have a lower crawl ratio than the doubler, but I dont know if its as strong as the doubler

DD,

Have you seen the "latest"? An ORD Doubler with a Wrangler Products 3.6:1 Gearset for the 203?

That will give you a 7.2:1 ratio, a 3.6:1 ratio and a 2:1 ratio.......I think the Klune is good for about 5:1 maximum.

Granted.....you'll be "into" this setup for close to $2000 (Doubler Kit + Gearset) but it sure seems like a COOL solution.....especially if you have "useless" crawl ratio axle gears like me (3.73s).....That 7.2:1 makes up for a LOT and I still have a great highway cruise RPM.......It's kinda like having O.D. without buying a new transmission.....

Anyway, just a thought in case you hadn't already seen it.

Yea I saw the new low gears for the 203. As for the klune-v it takes you low and multiplies it by 2.7. So with my 208 it would put it in the 7 range.

Hey what is this Klune-v ? Is it a gear reduction? Where does it go and how involved is the install?
Need input!

WOW! your lucky I wish I have low gears like tha I only have 3.07's

LOL

From what I've seen it is an inline gearbox, like adding a second Xfer case to the mix so you can 'double' your gear reduction and make your rig drive like a tractor. All RPM and no SPEED, a rock crawlers wet dream!!

The Klune uses a planetary reduction gearset like the NP241 does. I'm building one right now

to go between a NV4500 and my NP205. The project is currently stalled due to lack of cash but I have all the parts I need. Hopefully I can get back on track soon.

Rene...So what exactly are you building?...a 241/205 doubler?

The nice thing about the Klune is you can shift on-the-fly.
The bad thing is that it won't handle the torque of a strong motor behind a granny gear tranny (ie: 465 or 4500).

I'm building a small gear case housing a 241 planetary behind the NV4500, then it goes into the NP205. I see no reason the 241 planetary wouldn't stand up to a small block and a granny gear. The 241 comes stock behind the NV4500...
I recently scored a 32 spline NP241 for $120 and I'm looking to get the mainshaft shortened and resplined. The case itself is pretty easy. I'll have to convert my 205 to a 32 spline input though, but that's no big deal.

Available ranges will be 1:1, 1.96:1, 2.72:1, and 5.33:1.

Sounds fun! I hope you put up the plans when you are done (or sell them). I might have to think about that setup...

I'll take plenty of pic's etc. Basically a write up of sorts for whoever is interested. I just got recalled back to work after a short lay-off so if I can get some overtime in I can get back on track with it soon!

My goal is to have it all done and in the truck before Moab...that way I can explode D44 axles with style and authority!

Hi Rene,

It's Rod. I am glad to hear that you are back at work. I just tried your link to your pics and I didn't get anything. Is it just me? I really want to see what you have been up to. Are you going with a full convert? You sold my buddy Kevin your old tub. James and him came out to pick it up, unfortunately, I was busy that day. Send some pics, I am dying to see what is up!

Take Care,

Rod

I might go to full convertable with tRusty...I have two 74 toppers now plus a 74 to use as a guide and template. I guess it all depends on how motivated I get. I want the mechanical's done first and then I'll decide whether to chop or not to chop.
