Ha awesome! My neighbours have a daughter 5 and twin boys @ 3 years old. Man oh man they're an awesome crew but I do not know how they do it sometimes.

Okay, so I've been out of the country for a few days and had nothing to do except for try and find the end of the internet. So, I completely re-read Ryoken's build and it inspired me to get out in the heat and get some things done.

Anyway, I just finished mounting a few gauges to a scrap piece of aluminum. This won't be it, the final plan calls for the dash to resemble that of a 747 so I'm inundated with information. This is just the minimum to start and run the motor.

Here are a few things that I had done in the before I left.

The original pulley was a three grove V belt pulley.

I welded two of the three grooves and had it machined down. It turned out okay. Welding cast iron isn't easy. It's not as smooth as I would have liked it to be, but I'm going to give it a shot. I still need to weld up mounts for the alternator, air compressor, power steering pump and air conditioning compressor.

If this doesn't work out, I'll probably machine off the whole pulley and drill the collar to accept a small block chevy pulley. Probably should have done that in the first place. (never mind the lack of motor mounts. I'm working on those and have some scrap metal in their place.)
 
You mean your going to have two steering wheels and your throttle will be in the center console!?! Awesome!
Nope, just said the dash, not the whole flightdeck. Although I probably won't have an ADI, RMI, HSI, VVI, autopilot, VHF navigation or turn and slip indicators. :waytogo:

Well, with my impending PCS, I've decided that I need to get rid of all the parts that have piled up in my garage. Things that will not make it back on the truck, like the AC system will be put on CL or tossed. Other things, like the pile of parts that are my transfer case, need to be put back together.

Here's what I started with. Standard divorced NP205

Here's the powdercoated case. A friend talked me into grey so I could detect any leaks easier. :dunno:

Here's the new 1410 yokes compared to one of the old ones. Due to the transfer case being divorced, I'm in a position where I can have the same size front and rear driveshafts (depending if the rear driveshaft will clear the air tanks). That being the case, I'll either have to get another flange for the rear output or another yoke for the front output. We'll see.

and i vote to go flange on stuff my self. faster to remove/install driveline these days. and if c/v head driveshaft thay are more comon in flange mount.
Thanks for the link. I remember following that a couple years ago when you were doing it. It's been so long since I tore my tcase apart, I'm going to need it.

I'll probably end up going flanges front and back and a yoke for the intermediate shaft. I think I may have picked those up from High Angle Driveline. I'll have to check.
 
I've got the new front crossmember pretty much ready for powdercoat. I'll probably just paint it and call it good for now. I need to put the flywheel and clutch in next. That will at least get them off the shop floor and out of the way. Anyway, here's how she sits now.

Probably next on the list is to plumb the turbo oil feed and return. Got the Earls fittings in for that today, but the braided stainless hose was shipped from a different warehouse, so it'll have to wait. :doah: I need to install the fuel tanks and plumb the fuel line and fuel filters. I might start that tonight, but the wife is mixing drinks and I'm a sucker for alcohol.
 
Well, got the transmission out of the way to install the clutch and flywheel. Don't know what I did with my clutch brake. I'm sure it's in the garage somewhere. Been looking for it for only a few minutes. Found a new pair of Mechanix gloves though! :woot:

Got the pilot bearing pressed into the flywheel. Now, I just need to come up with a way to raise the flywheel into position while I bolt it on.

Well, that's it for now. The wife had an appointment, so it's time to come in and feed the boys.

Can't wait until they're big enough to start helping in the garage!

Well, it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Just lifted it up and rotated until the bolt holes line up. Coincidentally, the bolt holes aren't evenly spaced, so it only bolts on one way.

I was going to put the clutch in, but I ended up getting distracted on some other things. All the turbo drains I've seen for inline and other engines don't exactly fit the tight space, so I decided to make my own.

I started by drilling the mounting holes in some 1 inch thick aluminum.

After I drilled out the drain hole, I formed it with a cutoff wheel to the shape I needed it.

Sanded it down a bit to start making it look pretty.

I decided to throw a little polish on it. Here it is after about 10-15 minutes. My wife asked me "is that going somewhere on the bottom of the engine?" I replied that it was kind-of. Then I realized her point and decided to not polish it anymore.

Threaded the drain tube threads into the block.
