Are these 3.73s or 3.42s?

What number do I use? I have 12 41 11 83 Depending on the ones I pick I get both answers. Lol

Everything I find say to find the 41 with a number after though. I'm completlt lost. I should have counted. Lol

I also have reason to believe these are not original gears. They have VERY little wear and pattern, the housing and cover have damage that looks like a gear set or carrier exploded, and the globebox sticker shows the code for a gov lock but it's open.

I really didn't care as this truck is getting tons with some deep gears soon but curiosity dug in more then anything.

So I got up a friend at East Coast Gear Supply. He said bigger number first. So 41 11 are 3.73s

For what it's worth, that can't be universally true. Here is my GM 8.5" front ring gear. Known to be 41/11 3.73 ratio. And the last 2 numbers don't make sense if they're not the date code.

Notice the little number is stamped first on a know set.

Why does the date code not make sense?

Since his numbers are "12 41 11 83," if he reads "41 11" as the R&P numbers he's left with just "83" for the date code, with a random "12" on the side. Which makes no sense. "12/41 - 11/83" makes sense, at least to my eyes.

I thought you meant the date code on yours

It's pinion first, then ring gear, then month, then year.
